1 in 4 weekends (Friday evening, Saturday & Sunday); 1–2 weekday evenings per month; on-call support for vet only with generally quiet out-of-hours work; shared overnight hospitalisation duties with time off in lieu.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in a busy, independent first-opinion small animal practice. You’ll be joining a close-knit team that genuinely values nursing expertise and provides a supportive working environment. The practice is well-equipped with modern facilities including ultrasound, digital X-ray, dental suite, in-house laboratory, and endoscopy—giving you varied and engaging cases to work with.

This four-day working week role (08:30–18:30) comes with a shared on-call rota: one in four weekends (Friday evening through Sunday) and one to two weekday evenings per month. On-call duties focus on supporting the vet with generally quiet out-of-hours work, and you’ll share overnight hospitalisation duties with time off in lieu.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct nurse consultations and manage patient admissions and discharges
  • Monitor anaesthesia and provide specialist surgical nursing support
  • Deliver high-standard inpatient care and recovery management
  • Undertake laboratory work and clinical administration tasks
  • Support junior team members and student nurses in developing their skills
  • Contribute ideas and enthusiasm to help develop practice protocols and procedures
  • Prioritise client care and patient welfare in all interactions

Requirements

  • Registered Veterinary Nurse qualification (RVN)
  • Valid professional registration with RCVS
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Compassionate, patient-focused approach to client and animal care
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
