Shared OOH
Ready to join a 15-vet equine team where you'll have genuine support, proper time off, and shared on-call duties? Oakhill Equine Vets offers the collaborative practice culture that makes ambulatory work sustainable.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

Shared rota with two vets on call at all times. 4.5-day working week with time off in lieu for weekend on-call shifts.

About the Role

You’ll be joining Oakhill Equine Vets as an ambulatory equine veterinary surgeon, working within a thriving 15-vet team. This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a supportive, well-established practice where your case problems are never yours alone—you’ll have plenty of colleagues with genuine expertise on hand. The practice has full theatre facilities and diploma holders available to help whenever needed.

The on-call rota is genuinely shared: two vets are on call at all times, which means the load is properly distributed. You’ll work a 4.5-day week, with time off in lieu for weekend on-call shifts—so your work-life balance is built in, not an afterthought. An interest in reproduction and export work would be a valuable addition to your skillset, but it’s not essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide ambulatory equine veterinary care to a diverse client base
  • Contribute to the practice’s shared on-call rota (two vets on call simultaneously)
  • Work collaboratively with a 15-vet team, supporting colleagues and seeking support on complex cases
  • Attend monthly business, learning and development meetings, journal clubs, and medicine rounds
  • Participate in the practice’s collegial culture, including Friday evening social events and optional team activities

Requirements

  • Qualified, experienced equine veterinary surgeon
  • Genuine enthusiasm for ambulatory equine practice
  • Willingness to work as part of a supportive team environment
  • RCVS registration and current CPD compliance

Benefits

  • Competitive salary (subject to experience)
  • RCVS/VDS/CPD allowance
  • Shared on-call rota with two vets on duty at all times
  • 4.5-day working week with time off in lieu for weekend on-call shifts
  • Access to full theatre facilities and specialist support from diploma-holding colleagues
  • Monthly business and learning & development meetings with journal clubs and medicine rounds
  • Collegial workplace culture with regular social events (Friday pub visits, yoga sessions, etc.)
  • Safe, communicative working environment

About the Practice

Oakhill Equine Vets is part of XL Vets, an established community of independent veterinary practices. The team comprises 15 experienced equine vets based in Goosnargh, all committed to providing excellent patient care alongside genuine colleague support. The practice offers comprehensive facilities including a full theatre suite and maintains a strong culture of continuous learning through regular journal clubs, medicine rounds, and professional development sessions.

The team values safe, open communication and work-life balance for all staff. They regularly host social events (Friday evening gatherings, yoga sessions) and encourage a collaborative approach to case management where knowledge and experience are freely shared.
