🕐 Schedule & Rota

1:3 week on, 2 weeks off rota. Night shifts: 19:00–08:00 Monday to Monday. Weekend cover: 1 in 6 weekends, 07:30–19:30 (Saturday & Sunday). Two bank holidays per year.

About the Role

You’ll be joining a close-knit, energetic out-of-hours team based in Lisburn that provides emergency cover for several respected local practices, plus inpatients from a Veterinary Specialists hospital. This means exposure to a genuinely exciting variety of cases—from routine emergencies to complex critical care—where your clinical decisions make a real difference when patients need it most.

The rota is built for balance: a 1:3 week on, 2 weeks off pattern means you’re not grinding through endless nights. Night shifts run 19:00–08:00 (Monday to Monday), with 1 in 6 weekends covering 07:30–19:30 on Saturdays and Sundays, plus two bank holidays per year. Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver emergency and critical care to small animal patients presenting out-of-hours
  • Provide triage and intensive care for inpatients referred from partner practices and the Veterinary Specialists hospital
  • Work confidently and independently within the team, communicating clearly under pressure
  • Maintain gold-standard treatment protocols and clinical excellence across a variety of cases
  • Support the team’s reputation for exceptional emergency care across the local region

Requirements

  • Qualified Veterinary Surgeon with genuine experience in emergency and critical care
  • Confident, motivated, and compassionate approach to patient care
  • Ability to think on your feet and make sound decisions under pressure
  • Strong communication skills, especially in high-stress environments
  • Enthusiasm for delivering exceptional outcomes to every patient
