Ready to join an independent practice where your voice actually matters? Petwell House Vets is expanding and looking for an experienced vet who wants clinical freedom, strategic input, and a genuinely balanced 4-day week with NO out-of-hours.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

No out-of-hours or on-call duties. All OOH is outsourced to NSVE (North Surrey Veterinary Emergencies). Working pattern: 4-day week (9–7) with 1:3 Saturday mornings (9–12) only.

About the Role

This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a leadership position at a thriving, independently owned small animal practice. You’ll work across two well-equipped clinics in Hayes and Feltham, near Heathrow, with the clinical freedom to work cases your way and full support to develop your interests—whether that’s specialising in a particular area or introducing new services that excite you.

The role offers a genuine 4-day week (9–7 Monday–Thursday) with just 1:3 Saturday mornings (9–12). All out-of-hours is outsourced to NSVE, meaning no on-call duties—your evenings, Sundays, and bank holidays are completely yours. Your days flow smoothly: morning consultations until 11:30, a generous mid-day window for procedures and case work, then evening clinics from 4 pm, finishing at 7 pm.

Beyond day-to-day clinical work, you’ll play a real strategic role alongside David (Head of Clinic and Director), helping shape the practice’s direction and contributing to key business decisions. This is a platform to hone leadership skills while building the caseload and services you’re passionate about.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver confident small animal medical and surgical care across both Hayes and Feltham clinics
  • Work sole charge with full clinical freedom and support from the team
  • Manage a balanced mix of consultations and procedures within the structured daily schedule
  • Contribute to strategic decisions and practice development alongside the practice leadership
  • Develop your clinical interests and introduce new services or specialisms where your expertise adds value
  • Support and mentor the wider veterinary team in a collaborative, supportive environment

Requirements

  • Qualified veterinary surgeon with proven experience in small animal practice
  • Confidence working sole charge with sound clinical judgment
  • Ambitious and eager to grow your career with genuine input into practice direction
  • Strong communication skills and a team-focused approach
  • A genuine interest in work-life balance and building sustainable practice culture

Benefits

  • Competitive salary: £55,000–£70,000 depending on experience
  • 33 days annual holiday
  • CPD encouraged, with course certificates fully supported
  • Professional memberships: RCVS and VDS fees paid
  • 4-day working week (Mon–Thu, 9–7)
  • 1:3 Saturday mornings only (no Sunday or weeknight on-call)
  • No out-of-hours duties—OOH is outsourced to NSVE
  • Excellent transport links: minutes from Heathrow, direct to central London via Elizabeth Line
  • Two modern, well-equipped clinics with digital X-ray, ultrasound, full Idexx in-house lab, and upcoming dental X-ray investment

About the Practice

Petwell House Vets is a friendly, independently owned small animal practice with two conveniently located clinics in Hayes and Feltham, West London. The team is dedicated to delivering compassionate, individually tailored care to each pet while building strong client relationships. David, Head of Clinic and Principal Vet (appointed Director in 2022), brings extensive experience and a special interest in pet behaviour and exotic pets. He’s committed to creating a positive, progressive environment where both pets and people thrive.

Both clinics feature excellent facilities including dedicated prep areas, theatres, diagnostic suites, and comprehensive in-house diagnostics. The practice is investing in renovations and new equipment later this year, demonstrating genuine commitment to clinical excellence and team support. Independence is key—the practice tailors services to individual pet needs rather than following corporate protocols.
