About the Role

This is a fantastic opportunity to work as an ambulatory equine vet at Pool House Equine Hospital, a first opinion and referral practice nestled near Lichfield in the heart of the Midlands. You’ll enjoy excellent connectivity—the centre of England literally on your doorstep—with easy access to the motorway network, rail stations, and Birmingham International Airport. Yet you’re moments from the Derbyshire Dales and Peak District for proper countryside living.

You’ll be equipped with state-of-the-art mobile equipment including digital X-ray, ultrasound, shock wave therapy, digital gastroscopy, and fibreoptic endoscopes, allowing you to deliver exceptional care across a wide range of equine cases. This role offers full-time or part-time flexibility with Monday–Friday core hours (08:30–17:00) plus an on-call rota—the practice is genuinely open to different working patterns to suit your lifestyle.

Your work is supported by a substantial team: multiple specialists with advanced certificates and diplomat status in equine surgery, dentistry, medicine, diagnostic imaging, sports horse medicine, and rehabilitation. You’ll also benefit from dedicated reception, yard, and administrative support to streamline your day-to-day duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality ambulatory equine care across first opinion and referral cases
  • Work with diverse equine clientele, from elite competition horses to leisure and child’s ponies
  • Utilise mobile diagnostic equipment (digital X-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, shock wave) during farm and yard visits
  • Collaborate with in-house specialists and residents on complex cases and referrals
  • Contribute to the hospital’s clinical governance and evidence-based practice standards
  • Work within a supportive team structure with clear escalation pathways for complex or emergency situations

Requirements

  • RCVS registration as a veterinary surgeon
  • Genuine interest in equine medicine and/or surgery
  • Ability to work independently whilst collaborating effectively with colleagues
  • Commitment to high clinical and welfare standards
  • Full UK driving licence (essential for ambulatory work)

About the Practice

Pool House Equine Hospital is an RCVS-accredited tier 3 first opinion and referral practice forming part of the IVC Evidensia Equine Group. Located in Fradley near Lichfield, the hospital houses dedicated facilities including GA and standing operating theatres, preparation areas, DR digital X-ray, examination and radiography rooms, and stocks. On-site stabling accommodates up to 34 horses, with an in-house laboratory offering extensive diagnostic testing and dedicated Equine Registered Veterinary Nurse (ERVN) support.

The equine veterinary team comprises multiple professionals with advanced qualifications and diplomas across equine surgery, dentistry, medicine, diagnostic imaging, sports horse medicine, and rehabilitation. This collaborative, specialist-rich environment ensures you’re never isolated and always have expert support when needed.
