About the Role

This is a unique 12-month fixed-term internship designed specifically for RVNs who want to develop their skills in a specialist referral setting. You’ll rotate through core disciplines every six weeks, gaining hands-on experience across theatre and anaesthesia, medicine, neurology, and inpatient wards. Working alongside experienced nurses, clinicians and specialists, you’ll build confidence in advanced nursing techniques, emergency care and inpatient management in a large, multi-disciplinary hospital environment.

The role includes weekends and on-call rota participation as part of the wider nursing team, supporting Pride’s out-of-hours services. Throughout the 12 months, you’ll complete a formal training programme with funded RECOVER BLS and ALS certification, monthly journal clubs, in-house seminars, and a clinical audit—all while enjoying three hours of protected study time each week built into your 38-hour working week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Rotate through theatre and anaesthesia, medicine, neurology, and wards on a structured six-week rolling rota
  • Provide advanced nursing support under specialist supervision, including anaesthesia assistance and inpatient care
  • Contribute to weekend and on-call rota, supporting out-of-hours services alongside the nursing team
  • Participate in monthly journal clubs and in-house seminars delivered by nurses and clinicians
  • Complete required IVC Evidensia referral nurse online training modules
  • Work towards completion of a clinical audit as part of the structured programme
  • Engage in protected study time (3 hours per week) to consolidate learning and develop knowledge

Requirements

  • RCVS Registered Veterinary Nurse
  • Ideally 6–18 months post-qualification experience, though newly qualified RVNs are welcome to apply
  • Hospital experience desirable but not essential
  • Enthusiasm for learning and developing within a referral environment
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team-focused approach
  • Willingness to participate in a rotating rota, including weekends and on-call duties
  • Keen to explore referral nursing, build confidence across multiple disciplines, and progress with structured support
