About the Role

You’ll join Pride Veterinary Referral Centre as an anaesthesia intern, working directly under supervision of anaesthesia specialists including an ECVAA, an ACVAA, and two residency-trained clinicians. This is a structured internship designed to prepare you for potential residency, though further training is not a requirement. You’ll manage anaesthesia and sedation across a varied surgical and diagnostic caseload, developing competency in advanced techniques such as ultrasound-guided locoregional blocks.

Pride is a purpose-built referral hospital in Derby, strategically located within the award-winning Pride Park development. You’ll be working in a modern, spacious facility with thirteen consultation rooms, seven hospital wards, and five theatres. The Derbyshire Dales offer beautiful countryside on your doorstep, with Derby and Nottingham cities just minutes away – plus international airport access for easy travel.

Your working pattern averages 32.5 hours per week, including weekend and night cover with time off in lieu. Holidays are built into your rota, giving you genuine work-life balance alongside meaningful learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage anaesthesia and sedation for varied surgical and diagnostic cases under direct supervision
  • Develop competency in ultrasound-guided locoregional blocks and advanced pain management techniques
  • Collaborate with the hospital’s specialist teams in soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, internal medicine, oncology, neurology, ophthalmology, cardiology, and rehabilitation services
  • Contribute to the multidisciplinary team culture of clinicians, residents, and rotating interns
  • Prepare cases in the large, well-equipped prep area and support the full surgical and diagnostic schedule

Requirements

  • RCVS membership at the time of starting the internship
  • Completion of a rotating internship (preferred but not essential)
  • Fluent English with excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work clearly and calmly under pressure
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities
  • Reliability and professional commitment

Pride Veterinary Referral Centre is a large, state-of-the-art referral hospital owned by IVC Evidensia, one of the UK’s leading veterinary groups. The hospital features cutting-edge facilities including five operating theatres, three ultrasound rooms, a dedicated cardiology suite, advanced imaging (CT and MRI), interventional radiology, an endoscopy suite, hydrotherapy pool, treadmills, and a dedicated chemotherapy room. The team provides specialist services across diagnostic imaging, soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, internal medicine, oncology, neurology, ophthalmology, cardiology (led by an Advanced Practitioner), and rehabilitation.
