About the Role

You’ll be joining Provost Vet Group’s well-established small animal team in the picturesque seaside town of St Andrews, Scotland. This is a full-time position working 40 hours across four days, with Saturday rota participation (4.5 hours returned as time off in lieu). You’ll be based in a modern, purpose-built surgery that genuinely invests in its facilities and its people.

The role encompasses the full breadth of first opinion nursing: running specialist nurse clinics (weight management, vaccination follow-ups, pet health checks, nail trims), assisting vets with surgical procedures, performing diagnostic imaging, and managing ward and theatre nursing. You’ll have real scope to develop and expand the nurse clinic offerings, making this ideal if you’re keen to build expertise in specific areas like imagery or Schedule 3 tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct nurse-led clinics including weight management, puppy and kitten vaccination schedules, and pet health club checks
  • Perform diagnostic imaging and dental radiography using the practice’s digital and dental x-ray equipment
  • Provide theatre and ward nursing support across the practice’s two surgical theatres
  • Assist veterinary surgeons with first opinion consultations and procedures
  • Use specialist equipment including Imotek ultrasound and endoscopy systems
  • Contribute to developing and expanding the scope of nurse clinic services
  • Support the practice’s Cat Friendly Clinic status through appropriate patient care

Requirements

  • Current RVN registration (or eligible to register)
  • Experience in small animal first opinion practice
  • Enthusiasm and friendly approach to client and patient care
  • Interest in developing specialism areas (imagery, Schedule 3 tasks, or other clinically relevant areas)
  • Professional approach to health and safety standards

Benefits

  • Work-life balance: 6.8 weeks annual leave, plus additional holiday on your birthday
  • Professional development: £550 CPD allowance with 24 hours paid leave; Certificate support; access to IVC Evidensia Academy learning programmes; Vetlexicon online resource; research funding opportunities available to all nurses; Infection Prevention and Control and Quality Improvement Programmes
  • Wellbeing support: Private medical insurance; enhanced maternity/paternity/adoption/shared parental and surrogacy pay; Cycle to Work scheme; employee wellbeing initiatives; non-accidental injury support
  • Professional memberships: VDS cover and RCVS fees paid
  • Financial: Competitive base salary; pension scheme (5% employee, 3% employer)
  • Additional perks: Discounted staff pet care; Pawsome Benefits reward gateway with hundreds of retailer discounts and cashback
