Ready for a 4-day week with genuine work-life balance? Holly House in Wigan is looking for a Vet Surgeon to join a supportive team with no out-of-hours commitments—just quality medicine and colleague collaboration.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

1 in 4 Saturday rota; no out-of-hours or overnight on-call commitments

About the Role

Holly House Clinic in Hindley, Wigan is seeking a Veterinary Surgeon to join its established first-opinion practice. This permanent, full-time role offers a genuine 4-day working week with a manageable 1 in 4 Saturday rota and zero out-of-hours commitments—a rare find in modern small animal practice. You’ll work alongside five senior vets and be part of the broader Regan Veterinary Group network spanning six sites across Greater Manchester.

The role suits GP vets or those with a keen interest in clinical medicine who want to develop alongside experienced practitioners. You’ll work in a high-end first-opinion environment where thorough case workups, strong client relationships, and evidence-based decision-making are valued. The practice also runs Advanced Practitioner-led referral services, so you’ll have exposure to specialist surgery and ophthalmology cases managed in-house.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver first-opinion small animal veterinary care, conducting thorough clinical examinations and case workups
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients through clear communication and realistic treatment planning
  • Collaborate with five senior vets, an Advanced Practitioner surgeon, and an ophthalmology certificate holder on complex and referral cases
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives—the practice has submitted work to the RCVS QI awards on informed consent and sore eye case management
  • Contribute to regular case discussion meetings designed to support learning and continuous improvement
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team covering surgery, ophthalmology, diagnostic imaging, and general medicine

Requirements

  • Qualified Veterinary Surgeon registered with the RCVS
  • Experience in small animal first-opinion practice (GP vets or those with strong clinical interest in medicine)
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice balanced with pragmatic, client-focused decision-making
  • Strong communication and case documentation skills
  • Team player who values collaboration and open discussion

Benefits

  • Salary: Up to £75,000 FTE (dependent on experience); welcome/joining bonuses available
  • Working pattern: 4-day week with 1 in 4 Saturday rota; no out-of-hours or emergency commitments
  • Flexibility: Open to discussing part-time arrangements for the right candidate
  • Professional support: Vet Oracle platform providing expert clinical advice and support
  • CPD allowance: Paid professional fees and continuing professional development funding
  • Holiday: Buy and sell holiday scheme
  • Wellbeing: Employee Assistance Programme, trained mental health first aiders on site, proactive mental health support culture
  • Pet care: Discounted treatments and products for your own animals
  • Equipment: Access to laparoscopy, operating microscope, advanced orthopaedic and soft tissue kit, and specialist ophthalmology equipment; input on new equipment needs is encouraged
