Ready to join a forward-thinking small animal practice where you'll have access to advanced surgical facilities AND the chance to see interesting cases at their own referral hospital? Rowe Yate offers proper work-life balance with a 4-day week and genuine ECC exposure.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

1:9 weekend commitment (8am–6pm); regular shifts at ECC hospital with two other vets managing inpatients and emergencies for the wider group and local practices

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-equipped small animal practice that punches well above standard GP practice weight. You’ll work in Yate on a 4-day week (with one early finish at 4.30pm), giving you better work-life balance than traditional 5-day rotas. The practice runs a manageable 1:9 weekend commitment (8am–6pm) and includes regular shifts at their own ECC hospital, where you’ll work alongside two other vets managing inpatients and emergencies for the wider group—giving you valuable exposure to cases beyond routine first opinion work.

You’ll be part of a 9-vet team at Yate, several of whom hold or are pursuing advanced practitioner qualifications. The practice is fully equipped with ultrasound, digital X-ray, and advanced dental facilities, meaning you can manage complex cases in-house rather than referring them out. Many cases that do go to Rowe’s referral hospital can be followed through by you, bridging first opinion and specialist care. This is a genuinely collaborative environment backed by over 40 first opinion vets and 10 referral vets across 7 Rowe sites.

Flexibility is genuinely on the table here—if you have specific needs or preferences around your working pattern, the team actively wants to explore what could work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality clinical care across general medicine and surgery for small animal patients (dogs, cats, small pets)
  • Manage a mixed caseload with confidence in both surgical and medical cases
  • Contribute to the ECC hospital on a shared rota, managing inpatients and emergency cases alongside colleagues
  • Utilise practice equipment (ultrasound, digital imaging, advanced dental facilities) to manage cases in-house
  • Work collaboratively with a large nursing team and care assistants across the practice
  • Follow selected cases through to Rowe Referrals Hospital when referral is appropriate
  • Support the practice’s commitment to animal welfare and high standards of patient care

Requirements

  • Qualified as a Veterinary Surgeon (MRCVS or equivalent)
  • Experience in small animal general practice
  • Confidence managing both medical and surgical cases
  • Strong clinical passion and genuine care for patients
  • Ability to work well within a team environment

Benefits

  • Time Off: 6.6 weeks’ holiday (including bank holidays) plus your birthday off; private medical insurance; enhanced family-friendly leave and pay
  • Professional Development: £1,250 CPD allowance plus 40 paid CPD hours per year; access to Vetlexicon online resources; support for certificate and advanced learning; world-leading IVC Evidensia Training Centres; £1,250 annual Care Fund for professional development
  • Professional Support: BVA membership; VDS cover
  • Wellbeing: 24/7 confidential Employee Assistance Programme
  • Colleague Perks: Cycle to Work and Green Car schemes (subject to eligibility); retail discounts and cashback offers; reduced-cost veterinary care for your own pets
