About the Role

You’ll be joining Scarsdale Vets’ Stapenhill branch as part of their Graduate Academy – a structured programme designed specifically to support newly qualified vets stepping into practice. This is a full-time position working 38 hours over four days per week, with a shared weekend rota and time back in lieu for any weekend work. The role offers the perfect blend of learning and autonomy, with hands-on experience across routine medical and surgical cases alongside emergency medicine in a supportive, multi-site environment.

The practice sits in the heart of the Midlands with excellent transport links, and you’ll have access to the impressive main hospital at Derby, which is equipped with cutting-edge facilities including CT, MRI, advanced ultrasound, endoscopy, and multiple surgical suites. Many team members hold specialist certificates in Medicine, Surgery, ECC, Ophthalmology, and Imaging, and the practice actively encourages certificate study.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical care for small animal patients presenting with routine and emergency medical and surgical conditions
  • Work alongside a team of experienced veterinary surgeons, registered veterinary nurses, and veterinary care assistants
  • Contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care across the RCVS Tier 3 accredited main hospital and eight practice sites
  • Participate in the structured Graduate Academy programme with dedicated mentor support
  • Engage with continuing professional development opportunities and pursue specialist certificates where interests align
  • Work across multiple practice locations as part of the wider multi-site team

Requirements

  • Recently qualified or final-year veterinary graduate (RCVS recognised qualification)
  • Enthusiasm to learn and develop clinical skills in a supportive environment
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • RCVS registration or eligibility for registration
  • Willingness to engage with the Graduate Academy mentorship and CPD programme

About the Practice

Scarsdale Vets is a multi-site small animal practice based in the Midlands, comprised of a RCVS Tier 3 accredited main hospital at Derby and eight additional RCVS-accredited practice sites. The team includes experienced veterinary surgeons, a roster of new graduate vets, registered veterinary nurses, veterinary care assistants, and client care advisors. Many team members hold specialist certificates, and the practice has a strong commitment to advancing clinical skills and supporting professional development.

The main Derby hospital is exceptionally well-equipped with CT scanner, MRI, advanced ultrasound, endoscopy, digital X-ray, dental radiography, and multiple surgical suites, alongside an onsite hydrotherapy and rehabilitation centre. The practice operates a multi-disciplinary specialist-led referral service and is part of IVC Evidensia, a leading veterinary group committed to supporting graduate development.
