Ready to grow your nursing skills at a practice that genuinely invests in your development? Shelfield Vets for Pets is expanding into laparoscopic surgery and advanced dental imaging—perfect if you want to learn and progress without the grind of out-of-hours work.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

No out-of-hours or overnight in-patient checks required. Role includes one in three Saturday mornings (9:00am–12:00pm) as part of regular weekday/weekend shift pattern.

About the Role

Shelfield Vets for Pets is seeking a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join their established small animal team in Walsall. Whether you’re newly qualified and keen to expand your experience, or an experienced nurse looking to develop advanced skills, you’ll find plenty of scope to grow here. This full-time or part-time role involves a mixture of early and late weekday shifts (practice hours 8:30am–7:00pm Monday to Friday) plus one Saturday morning in three (9:00am–12:00pm), with no out-of-hours or overnight work required.

You’ll work alongside three veterinary surgeons, a dedicated reception team, other RVNs, and student nurses in a cat-friendly and dog-friendly practice with separate waiting areas. The team actively supports professional development—one vet is currently completing a dermatology certificate, and the practice encourages RVNs to pursue ISFM and advanced nursing qualifications. If you’re interested in stepping into a Head Nurse or leadership role over time, this practice welcomes that ambition.

  • Good general nursing experience and strong customer service skills
  • Cheerful, down-to-earth, and enthusiastic approach with genuine commitment to animal welfare
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills
  • Interest in professional progression (desirable, not essential)

Benefits

  • Competitive salary: £28,000–£35,000 depending on experience (newly qualified RVNs start at £28,000; those stepping into developmental Head Nurse or leadership positions start from £35,000)
  • Structured progression reviews linked to experience, responsibility, and performance
  • No out-of-hours or overnight in-patient checks
