About the Role

Southern Counties Veterinary Specialists is seeking an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse to join its dedicated Internal Medicine team on a fixed-term contract basis. This is a part-time position working approximately 30 hours per week, with shifts Tuesday–Thursday 08:30–17:30, plus a 1:5 weekend rota (Saturday & Sunday 07:00–19:30 in Wards). The role runs from Spring 2026 for up to 12 months.

You’ll be part of an established team of six Medicine & Oncology Nurses, supported by RVNs from other specialist services within the hospital. The practice has recently undergone significant expansion, adding a purpose-built theatre complex, 10 new consulting rooms, and a dedicated rehabilitation centre offering physiotherapy and hydrotherapy for post-operative recovery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver advanced nursing care within the Medicine service, managing complex inpatient cases
  • Assist with anaesthesia for medical and diagnostic procedures
  • Support diagnostic and interventional procedures including endoscopy, bronchial and tracheal stent placement
  • Prepare and administer chemotherapeutic agents and blood transfusion products
  • Provide nursing care to hospitalised medical patients, including emergency stabilisation and one-to-one ICU care
  • Collaborate within the multidisciplinary hospital team, contributing specialist expertise to clinical decision-making
  • Share knowledge with colleagues to support continuous improvement in standards

Requirements

  • Registration as a Veterinary Nurse with the RCVS
  • Significant experience in clinical practice with competent nursing skills relevant to your discipline
  • Keen interest in internal medicine
  • Experience working with complex medical cases in a referral or advanced-care setting (advantageous)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice, clinical governance, and continuous improvement
