About the Role

Southfields Veterinary Specialists is expanding its prestigious imaging department and seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Diagnostic Imaging specialist to join an established diplomate-led team. This is a full-time permanent position offering the rare opportunity to work within a £16 million state-of-the-art referral complex—one of the largest in the UK—where imaging excellence directly impacts patient outcomes across all specialisms.

You’ll be based in Basildon, Essex, just 30 minutes from central London, combining the energy of city proximity with access to beautiful countryside. The location offers flexibility for those seeking urban or rural lifestyle preferences.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver specialist diagnostic imaging clinical services as a Consultant across a fully equipped imaging department
• Lead and develop the Diagnostic Imaging team, contributing to strategic growth and service excellence
• Mentor residents and interns in imaging protocols and clinical reasoning
• Collaborate across all clinical services—oncology, surgery, emergency & critical care, and internal medicine—to optimise case management
• Drive innovation in service delivery and diagnostic approaches
• Maintain the highest professional standards to advance patient care within the facility

Requirements

• Board certification or board eligibility in Diagnostic Imaging (EBVS European Diploma, ACVR American Board, RCVS Specialist, or equivalent qualification)
• Demonstrated expertise in advanced imaging modalities
• Experience mentoring junior veterinarians or residents (desirable)
• Strong communication and collaborative working skills
• Commitment to clinical excellence and professional development

Southfields Veterinary Specialists is a leading referral centre and part of Linnaeus, a company of Mars Veterinary Health. The newly constructed £16 million complex in Basildon represents state-of-the-art veterinary infrastructure, housing innovative cancer treatment facilities, full diagnostic suites, seven operating theatres, recovery suites, and a 24-hour ICU. The facility includes 195 kennels and 14 consultation rooms, supported by a dedicated cat care team.

The imaging department is the cornerstone of the referral service, working collaboratively with emergency and critical care, surgery, oncology, and internal medicine specialists.
