Ready to fast-track your neurology credentials? Join Southfields' elite team of 4 ECVN diplomates and a fellow resident for a structured, research-active residency just 30 minutes from London. State-of-the-art facilities, genuine mentorship, and a salary that recognises your investment in specialist training.

About the Role

This is a full-time ECVN-conforming residency in veterinary neurology and neurosurgery, commencing March 2026. The application closing date is 19th of April. You’ll join a powerhouse neurology team at one of the UK’s leading multi-disciplinary referral hospitals, working alongside 4 ECVN diplomates, a fellow resident in training, and two dedicated neurology nurses. Your caseload will be large, varied, and genuinely interesting—the kind of exposure that builds a consultant’s confidence.

Southfields sits in rural Essex, yet you’re only 30 minutes from central London, giving you the best of both worlds: a dynamic, research-focused environment without the commute chaos. The practice occupies a state-of-the-art 40,000 sq. ft. facility with 16 consulting rooms, cross-sectional imaging (Siemens Magnetom), and 4 lead-lined theatres equipped for complex neurosurgical cases. This is a place where your learning isn’t theoretical—it happens in real time with real cases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervised responsibility for a large and varied neurology caseload, with graduated independence as you progress
  • Integrated and multidisciplinary case management, working alongside specialists in oncology, orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, imaging, anaesthesia, and other disciplines
  • Active participation in Southfields’ clinical research programme, contributing to research projects that advance neurological knowledge
  • Day-to-day clinical duties including consultations, diagnostics, and surgical procedures (neurosurgery training included)
  • Engagement in teaching and knowledge-sharing with the wider veterinary team

Requirements

  • Veterinary degree (BVSc or equivalent) with current RCVS registration
  • Completed rotating internship (essential)
  • Neurology-specific internship experience at a referral hospital (highly desirable but not essential)
  • Minimum 2 years first opinion experience (desirable)
  • Highly motivated, self-starter mentality with ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong learning ethic, organisational skills, and commitment to clinical excellence
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with colleagues and clients at all levels
  • Good sense of humour and resilience

Benefits

  • Leave: 5 weeks holiday plus bank holidays plus birthday leave
  • Professional development: RCVS and VDS fees paid; external CPD fully funded; extensive free online Linnaeus CPD programme
  • Financial: Employer contribution pension scheme; life assurance; enhanced sick pay; enhanced equal family leave; e-car salary sacrifice scheme
  • Wellbeing: Mental health first aiders network; confidential employee assistance programme; eyecare voucher scheme; free annual flu jab
  • Other perks: Staff discount schemes; cycle to work scheme; recruitment referral reward scheme
  • Career development: Clear pathway to ECVN qualification and consultant roles within a large multi-disciplinary practice
