Ready to lead a close-knit, genuinely collaborative team in a thriving practice with real work-life balance? Straid Vets is looking for a Practice Manager who'll shape culture, not just manage spreadsheets.

About the Role

This is a site-based leadership position where you’ll make a tangible difference to both team morale and client experience. You’ll work closely with the Director of Practice, Clinical Services, Lead Vet, and Head Receptionist to run the practice smoothly while building on the strong, supportive culture that’s defined Straid Vets for over 100 years.

The role is available for up to 40 hours per week, typically Monday to Friday, but the practice is very open to flexible or reduced hours arrangements for the right person. Located in beautiful Beaconsfield in the Chiltern Hills, you’ll enjoy countryside living with city convenience—direct trains to London in under 30 minutes, plus excellent local shops and cafés.

You’ll be joining a genuinely collaborative team of vets, nurses, animal care assistants, and receptionists who actually enjoy working together. The practice provides comfortable staff areas, a quiet admin office, unlimited tea and coffee, and weekly fruit and snacks—the little things that make a workplace feel welcoming.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, support, and motivate the practice team to foster a positive and collaborative working environment
  • Maintain practice standards and ensure compliance with RCVS guidelines
  • Manage practice budgets, stock control, and capital expenditure requests
  • Support payroll production and respond to payroll queries
  • Line management and staff appraisals
  • Oversee building and equipment maintenance
  • Ensure Health & Safety compliance with team support
  • Recruitment and monitoring of mandatory and ongoing training compliance
  • Act as first point of contact for IT queries (with central IT support available)
  • Handle and resolve client complaints professionally and promptly
  • Attend and lead practice and area meetings

Requirements

  • A confident, approachable leadership style with a genuine passion for people and practice culture
  • Previous practice management experience is desirable but not essential—full training and support will be provided
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships across the team
  • Proactive, organised, and solutions-focused approach
  • Comfortable working in a busy, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to lead by example and create a positive, efficient workplace

Benefits

  • Salary up to £45,000 depending on experience
  • Flexible working options available, including part-time arrangements
  • Staff areas and quiet admin office for breaks and focused work
  • Unlimited tea and coffee, plus weekly fruit and snacks
  • Access to IVC Evidensia’s wider support and professional development resources
  • Part of a practice deeply committed to local community—supporting Alley Cat Rescue and Cats Protection

About the Practice

Straid Veterinary Clinic has been a cornerstone of the Beaconsfield community for over 100 years. The practice is built on a reputation for genuine care—both for animals and for the people who work there. With loyal clients and long-standing team members, there’s a real sense of belonging and mutual respect.

The practice is part of IVC Evidensia, a global network of over 2,500 clinics and hospitals across 20 countries with around 41,000 employees, caring for approximately 25,000 animals every day. This means access to expert support, resources, and professional development while maintaining Straid’s independent, community-focused identity. The practice treats dogs, cats, and small pets.
