About the Role

Join Tern Vets in Newport as a Veterinary Receptionist and become the heart of the practice – the warm, approachable first point of contact who sets the tone for every client and pet that walks through the door. This is a full-time permanent position working 40 hours per week, with Saturday morning cover included. You’ll be working in a small, close-knit team that genuinely looks after one another, creating an environment where you’re supported, valued, and trusted to do your best work.

Based in rural North Shropshire, you’ll enjoy the best of both worlds: the beauty of countryside living perfect for dog walks and outdoor activities, whilst being within easy reach of Birmingham, Manchester, and Liverpool. This is a progressive practice that keeps looking forward – you won’t be stuck in the past here.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first point of contact, greeting clients and pets warmly and professionally
  • Manage appointment scheduling and diary organisation to keep the practice running smoothly
  • Handle telephone and email enquiries with excellent communication skills
  • Liaise between clients and clinical staff to ensure high-quality customer care throughout their visit
  • Process payments for services and products with accuracy
  • Manage cash handling and complete end-of-day banking procedures
  • Maintain a clean, welcoming, and safe environment for clients and their pets

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills and a warm, compassionate demeanour
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks efficiently in a busy environment
  • Experience in a receptionist or customer-facing role (preferred but not essential – enthusiasm and attitude matter)
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Willingness to work Saturday mornings as part of the rota
