Churchdown, South West
Full Time, Part Time

No out-of-hours, genuine work-life balance, and a practice that invests in you? The Brambles is a family-owned independent practice in Gloucestershire looking for a vet who wants to grow without the burnout.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

No out-of-hours duties. Weekend rota is 1:5 Saturday and Sunday mornings only (daytime work, not overnight on-call).

About the Role

This is an opportunity to join a truly independent small animal practice that has been family-owned and run since 1971. The Brambles offers something increasingly rare in modern veterinary medicine: genuine flexibility, no overnight on-call duties, and a rota built around your wellbeing rather than against it.

You’ll work 3–4 days per week with flexible hours (choose from 9am–7pm, 8.30am–4.30pm, or 9am–6.30pm with one late finish), plus a manageable 1:5 weekend rota covering Saturday and Sunday mornings only. The practice actively encourages CPD and creates space for proper case work-ups and colleague discussions—no rushing, no chaos.

This role suits both experienced vets looking to specialise in a particular field and less experienced practitioners eager to develop solid general practice skills. Either way, you’ll be well-supported by an experienced nursing team with a genuine focus on patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-standard small animal veterinary care in a relaxed, supportive environment
  • Work collaboratively with the team of vets and experienced nurses to deliver excellent patient outcomes
  • Contribute to case discussions and share knowledge with colleagues
  • Utilise the practice’s modern facilities—digital X-ray, ultrasound, laparoscopy, ECG, tonometry, and full in-house laboratory—to diagnose and treat
  • Support the practice’s commitment to preventive healthcare and client education

Requirements

  • Registered veterinary surgeon (RCVS)
  • Commitment to continuing professional development
  • Genuine interest in small animal medicine and client care
  • Ability to work flexibly within the agreed rota structure

Benefits

  • Salary: £40,000–£60,000 per annum depending on experience
  • Work-life balance: No out-of-hours duties, 3–4 days per week, flexible start/finish times
  • Time off: 5 weeks’ holiday per year plus all UK bank holidays
  • Professional development: £1,000 annual CPD allowance
  • Pension: Company pension scheme
  • Perks: Generous employee discount, built-in lunch breaks
  • Part-time hours considered: Flexibility to suit your circumstances

About the Practice

The Brambles Veterinary Surgery has been Gloucester’s only family-owned and family-run practice since 1971. That independence means no corporate shareholders, no pressure to hit metrics above ethics, and the freedom to set fees fairly for quality care. The practice has invested significantly over the years and now combines all the facilities of a modern veterinary hospital with the warm, approachable feel of a neighbourhood vet.

Facilities include dedicated air-conditioned surgeries with separate dog and cat wards, walk-in kennels, an isolation unit, digital X-ray suite, high-quality ultrasound, laparoscopy, multi-parameter monitoring, ECG, tonometry, and full Idexx in-house laboratory. The team’s philosophy centres on delivering clinical excellence, preventive healthcare advice, and genuine patient care in a relaxed atmosphere.
