About the Role
Join a compassionate veterinary team as a remote Veterinary Assistant, where you’ll provide essential administrative and clinical support to veterinarians and their patients. This position offers the flexibility of remote work, allowing you to assist veterinarians in providing excellent care for animals. You will work directly with clients and the veterinary team to ensure smooth operations and high-quality care.
This is a full-time role with flexible working hours tailored to your schedule, including some availability for evenings and weekends based on client needs. You’ll average 40 hours per week whilst enjoying the freedom of working from home.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide administrative support including appointment scheduling, phone management, and patient record updates
- Assist veterinarians with medical procedures and animal care while providing emotional support to patients
- Communicate with pet owners about health conditions, preventive care options, and medication instructions
- Ensure that all medical equipment and tools are sanitized and maintained according to health standards
- Monitor and document animal conditions, reporting any concerns or changes to the veterinary team
- Process billing transactions and manage veterinary insurance claims
- Maintain accurate and current electronic medical records for all patients under the practice’s care
- Conduct patient intake procedures, collecting medical histories and recording vital signs
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (veterinary assistant certification is advantageous but not essential)
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities
- Excellent organisational skills with meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a remote team environment
- Basic understanding of animal health and veterinary care procedures
- Proficiency with veterinary management software and standard office applications (Microsoft Office suite)
- Genuine empathy for animals and strong interpersonal skills when working with pets and their owners
- Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations
- 1–2 years of experience in a veterinary clinic or animal care setting (preferably in an assistant capacity)
- Previous remote work experience is advantageous
- Familiarity with medical terminology and basic animal anatomy is preferred
