Ready to lead a warm, collaborative team on a beautiful island where work-life balance is real? Join The Vetcare Centres as Clinical Director and shape a culture of clinical excellence without the chaos.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

1:5 rota covering weeknights and weekends, including Saturday morning consults (9am–12:30pm). Described as very manageable; nursing team manage inpatients.

About the Role

The Vetcare Centres in Guernsey are seeking a clinically excellent, people-focused Clinical Director to lead their veterinary teams across two locations. This role blends hands-on clinical work with mentorship, operational leadership, and strategic planning—you’ll be central to building a culture where clinical standards, team development, and collaborative care genuinely matter.

The practice has a manageable 1:5 out-of-hours rota covering weeknights and weekends (including Saturday morning consults 9am–12:30pm), and they’re flexible about working patterns—whether you prefer a 4-day week or 5 shorter days. This is island life at its best: you’ll work alongside four vets (including specialists in cardiology and ophthalmology), two RVNs, three SVNs, and four VCAs in a practice that’s built on genuine connection and shared purpose.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and inspire the clinical team across both Guernsey locations
  • Ensure high standards of clinical care, compliance, and client experience
  • Oversee the clinical rota and manage mentorship and development for vets and RVNs
  • Serve as the clinical voice in operational and leadership decisions
  • Support performance management and case quality reviews
  • Collaborate closely with the Head of Operations and Nursing Coordinator to implement strategy and build systems
  • Lead daily morning rounds and monthly vet and nurse meetings to share knowledge and reflect on cases as a team

Requirements

  • MRCVS with a minimum of 5 years in clinical practice
  • Prior leadership or mentorship experience strongly preferred
  • Calm under pressure and solution-oriented in approach
  • People-first mindset with passion for development, standards, and collaborative care

Benefits

  • Salary: £85,000+ depending on experience, with low tax rates on the island
  • Relocation package of £5,000 and use of company car
  • Assistance with finding accommodation
  • 5 weeks holiday plus bank holidays
  • CPD encouraged, with certificates supported and funded
  • Professional fees paid for RCVS, VDS, and BVA membership
  • Access to continuous learning via webinars and in-house training
  • Visa sponsorship available
  • Private health insurance and subsidised gym membership
  • Warm team culture where your ideas and input are genuinely valued

About the Practice

Established in 1981, The Vetcare Centres has served the Guernsey community with exceptional veterinary care across two locations (Les Eturs and Northside). The practice is primarily small animal-focused (95% of caseload), though there is scope to expand farm animal and equine work. They partner with the local GSPCA and provide weekly support to Alderney Animal Welfare, offering team members rewarding involvement in wildlife care including puffins and seals.

The practice is actively expanding—new consultation rooms and theatres are under construction, with plans to introduce endoscopy, laparoscopy, and CT scanning within 12 months. The team is a nurse training practice with experienced vets including specialists, recent graduates with interests in exotics and wildlife conservation, and an excellent reception team led by Marie, who has been with the practice since its founding. The culture centres on ownership, trust, and continuous support for all team members.
