About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join The Veterinary Hospital (Gorleston) as an experienced small animal vet with a surgical focus. You’ll work across a broad and varied caseload with access to exceptional facilities and the support needed to develop your surgical expertise further. The practice operates over two sites on the Norfolk/Suffolk coast, set within the beautiful Norfolk Broads with easy access to London for those needing commuting flexibility.

The role is full-time over four days per week, with Saturday mornings included on a 1:4 rota. Evenings, nights and bank holidays are covered by the on-site MiNightVets out-of-hours service, so you won’t be expected to provide cover outside these hours unless you’re interested in ECC work—which is available for those who want it. The practice actively supports flexible working arrangements and is keen to find the right fit for you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and develop the hospital’s surgical caseload, with two dedicated full operating days per week
  • Deliver first opinion consultations and general small animal veterinary care alongside surgical work
  • Utilise advanced diagnostic and surgical equipment to deliver high-standard patient care
  • Contribute to the management of referral cases, particularly the hospital’s radioactive iodine thyroid service
  • Work collaboratively with visiting specialists (including a cardiologist) and the broader clinical team across both sites
  • Engage in continuous professional development tailored to your interests and career goals

Requirements

  • Qualified veterinary surgeon with proven experience in small animal practice
  • Demonstrated interest and surgical experience; surgically-minded clinicians especially encouraged to apply
  • Strong clinical knowledge and ability to work effectively within a team
  • Professional registration with the RCVS
  • Willingness to participate in certificate-level study with practice support (desirable but not essential)

About the Practice

The Veterinary Hospital (Gorleston) is an RCVS-registered hospital and surgery operating across two Norfolk/Suffolk coastal sites. The practice provides first opinion care and hosts a specialist radioactive iodine referral service accepting cases from across the region. It also operates MiNightVets, a 24-hour on-site emergency service providing round-the-clock care for patients.

The hospital is exceptionally well equipped with four fully equipped operating theatres, complete orthopaedic facilities (including TPLO and TTA plates), laparoscopic spay equipment, ultrasound and echocardiography at both sites, DR X-ray, video-assisted endoscopy and bronchoscopy, on-site laboratory with endocrine testing, a pet blood bank with EPOC and lactate monitoring, dedicated isolation facilities, and toxicology emergency equipment.
