About the Role

Thrums Vets is seeking a Mixed Species Vet to join a dynamic, collaborative team in the heart of Angus and eastern Perthshire. This is a genuine mixed caseload opportunity—approximately 70% small animal and 30% large animal—involving routine and emergency care, diagnostics, surgery, and preventative health work across all species. The role can be tailored to suit your own interests and specialist areas within mixed practice.

You’ll be part of a large, experienced team in a practice that has been independently owned for over 75 years and is committed to staying that way. With a manageable 1:15 on-call rota and time off in lieu, you’ll have the breathing room to deliver excellent care without burnout. The practice also offers access to XL Vets’ extensive knowledge-sharing network and world-class professional development resources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality veterinary care across small animals, farm livestock, and equine patients
  • Perform routine examinations, diagnostic assessments, treatments, and surgical procedures
  • Provide emergency care and participate in 24-hour on-call duties on a 1:15 rota basis
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through clear communication and health education
  • Work collaboratively with the veterinary team, including nurses and support staff
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and stay current with advances in veterinary medicine

Requirements

  • RCVS-registered veterinarian with a genuine passion for mixed species practice
  • Minimum 2 years relevant working experience post-qualification
  • Strong communication skills with both clients and colleagues
  • Ability to work both independently and effectively as part of a team
  • Commitment to delivering excellent animal care and building lasting client relationships
  • Positive attitude, good humour, and proactive problem-solving approach
