University of Glasgow
Apply before: Feb 19, 2026
1:4 weekend rota with 2 days off during the week. Bank Holiday participation required with additional pay.
This is a fantastic opportunity to build or advance a career in referral anaesthesia at one of the UK’s leading veterinary teaching hospitals. You’ll work primarily within a busy theatre and treatment area complex, supporting specialist clinicians on a diverse range of advanced surgical and medical cases. The role combines hands-on peri-anaesthetic care with patient monitoring, analgesia management, and recovery nursing—exactly what drives nursing excellence in a referral setting.
To maintain a broad clinical skillset, you’ll also rotate through key hospital departments. With a 1-in-4 weekend rota (and additional weekday days off to compensate), you’ll achieve a genuine work-life balance while staying connected to the breadth of hospital practice. Bank Holiday participation is also part of the role, with additional pay.
Referral or anaesthesia experience is desirable but absolutely not essential—the University is committed to training, mentorship, and ongoing professional development for nurses at all stages of their careers.
The University of Glasgow’s School of Veterinary Medicine is internationally recognised as a centre of excellence in teaching, research, and clinical provision. The Small Animal Hospital is a dedicated referral centre providing advanced surgical and medical care to animal owners and referring practitioners across the UK. The School holds full accreditation from the American Veterinary Medical Association and is ranked among the country’s leading veterinary institutions.
Part of the College of Medicine, Veterinary and Life Sciences, the School attracts students, researchers, and clinicians from around the world. You’ll be working alongside specialist clinicians and a supportive team committed to mentoring the next generation of veterinary professionals.
