🕐 Schedule & Rota

Shared Saturday morning shifts 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM; four regular shifts per week (Monday-Friday) 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. No overnight or night shift requirement mentioned.

About the Role

This is a 12-month fixed-term contract offering full-time hours (40 hours per week) in a dynamic small animal practice. You’ll work on a rota basis: four shifts from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM, plus shared Saturday morning shifts (8:00 AM to 1:00 PM). The practice operates across two sites in Monmouthshire, with the branch surgery just a ten-minute drive away, keeping your commute manageable and your workload varied.

Usk Veterinary Centre is situated within walking distance of Usk Town and remarkably close to the Monmouthshire River—a favourite lunchtime spot for staff and their dogs. The surrounding area offers plenty to explore during your downtime, and both Cardiff and Bristol are within 45 minutes’ drive, making this an ideal location for those seeking small-town charm with urban accessibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-standard nursing care to small animal patients across surgery, dentistry, and theatre environments
  • Assist 7 veterinary surgeons in clinical procedures and patient management
  • Perform pre- and post-operative nursing duties in the dedicated main theatre and separate dental theatre
  • Support diagnostic procedures including ultrasound, endoscopy, and dental x-rays
  • Work collaboratively with a team of 9 nurses, 9 reception staff, and 1 practice manager
  • Contribute to maintaining the practice’s reputation for excellent patient and client care
  • Participate in walk-in kennel management and animal welfare protocols

Requirements

  • Current RCVS registration as a Qualified Veterinary Nurse
  • Minimum 1 year of practical experience in a small animal veterinary setting
  • Passion for delivering excellent care to patients and clients
  • Strong collaborative working style and ability to thrive in a team environment
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of animal welfare and clinical practice
  • Willingness to take on a varied range of nursing responsibilities

About the Practice

Usk Veterinary Centre is a well-established two-site small animal practice serving Monmouthshire and the surrounding region. The main practice is equipped with an in-house laboratory, DR X-ray machine with SignalPet, dental X-ray facilities, a separate dental theatre, dedicated prep rooms, main operating theatre, ultrasound machine, endoscopy equipment, and walk-in kennels—providing comprehensive diagnostic and surgical capabilities.
