About the Role

You’ll be the welcoming voice and professional presence that sets the tone for every client interaction at Usk Veterinary Centre. This part-time role spans both the main Usk surgery and the sister practice at Caerleon (just ten minutes away), working 22 hours per week: one full day shift, two afternoon shifts (1pm–7pm), and a share of Saturday morning duties. You’ll manage the busy reception desk, handle enquiries with care, and be the backbone of our client experience.

Situated a stone’s throw from the River Usk and within walking distance of Usk Town, the practice sits in the heart of the Monmouthshire countryside, with Cardiff and Bristol both within easy reach. This is a genuinely supportive environment where a team of 10 receptionists, 7 vets, and 9 nurses work together to deliver excellent small animal care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet clients professionally and respond promptly to telephone enquiries
  • Manage appointment scheduling—booking, cancelling, and rearranging with accuracy
  • Record and pass on client enquiries, following up as needed
  • Process payments using PDQ systems and accurately record transactions
  • Promote practice services, manage debt control, and complete daily cash reconciliation
  • Keep the reception area clean, welcoming, and well-maintained
  • Process clinic emails and attend regular team meetings

Requirements

  • Enthusiastic, reliable, and professional manner
  • Strong communication skills—both face-to-face and over the phone
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and remain organized under pressure
  • Experience in a customer-facing role is desirable

About the Practice

Usk Veterinary Centre is a two-site small animal practice in the heart of Monmouthshire, part of the IVC Evidensia group. The practice is equipped with modern facilities including an in-house laboratory, DR X-ray machine with SignalPet, dental X-ray and dedicated dental theatre, ultrasound, endoscopy, and walk-in kennels. The team of 7 vets and 9 nurses is committed to providing high-standard care for dogs, cats, and small pets.

Nestled near the Monmouthshire River and within the scenic Brecon Beacons, the practice offers a lovely work environment where staff enjoy riverside walks during breaks.
