Ready to be the friendly face of a thriving referral hospital? Vale Referrals is looking for a receptionist who can juggle phones, smiles, and admin with ease—and they'll train you every step of the way.

About the Role

You’ll join Vale Referrals as a Veterinary Receptionist in their busy Dursley hospital, serving both first opinion and referral clients. This is a fixed-term part-time contract for 6 months, offering flexible afternoon and weekend shifts that fit around your life. As the first point of contact, you’ll be the glue holding the practice together—welcoming visitors, managing phones, registering new clients, and handling the essential administrative and clinical support tasks that keep a modern animal hospital running smoothly.

The practice is warm, collaborative, and genuinely supportive. You’ll work alongside 10 first opinion clinicians, 8 referral vets, around 30 nursing staff, and 10 fellow receptionists—all committed to excellent client and patient care in a one-site hospital setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Meet and greet all visitors, creating a welcoming first impression
  • Answer telephone calls and manage enquiries from both first opinion and referral clients
  • Register new clients and check in patient details accurately
  • Organise veterinary diaries and manage appointment scheduling
  • Process client payments and handle insurance claims
  • Dispense medication as required
  • Maintain cleanliness of reception and client-facing areas
  • Support the wider team with administrative tasks

Requirements

  • Friendly, client-focused approach with excellent communication skills
  • Experience in veterinary reception or customer service is advantageous but not essential—full training will be provided
  • Ability to work the required shifts: Monday 1:30pm–7:30pm, Tuesday 1:30pm–5pm, Thursday 2:30pm–7:30pm, Friday 5pm–7:30pm, plus one Saturday in five (8:30am–12:30pm)
  • Organised and able to manage multiple tasks in a busy environment
