Love working in a hospital environment where your nursing skills are truly valued? Join a state-of-the-art practice with a genuine 4-day week, manageable weekend rotas, and a team that genuinely prioritises your wellbeing.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

1:4 Saturday and Sunday rota (two days off in week for this pattern). Additional OOH shifts for holiday cover (7pm–8am) available to discuss.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the nursing team at a modern, well-equipped veterinary hospital in Northampton. You’ll work a full-time 40-hour week across four days, with a 1:4 Saturday and Sunday rota pattern—giving you consistent time off in the week to enjoy your life outside work. The practice handles its own 24/7 out-of-hours work and supports 13 local clinics, with a dedicated OOH team for smooth handovers and continuity of care.

The hospital itself is impressive: opened in October 2022, it’s packed with modern facilities including three operating theatres, dental suite, dedicated X-ray and ultrasound rooms, luxury heated kennels with separate dog and cat wards, a dog wash facility, and thoughtful amenities for staff including a quiet zone, mod cons colleague area, and an outdoor grass space for breaks. You’ll work with interesting, complex cases where patients stay long-term for proper care—no constant back-and-forth transfers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-standard nursing care to in-patients with complex, interesting cases
  • Assist with theatre work, emergency cases, and triage alongside the vet team
  • Perform Schedule 3 procedures and administer anaesthetic monitoring and patient recovery
  • Conduct 20-minute nurse consults (vaccinations, medication checks) as part of the collaborative team approach
  • Work across all ward areas and support staff in a truly team-based environment
  • Actively utilise and develop Schedule 3 skills across all practice areas

Requirements

  • Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) qualification
  • Confidence in nurse consulting—or genuine willingness to develop this skill
  • Positive, team-oriented attitude with excellent communication skills
  • Interest in hospital nursing and complex patient care
  • Clinical coach qualification desirable, or openness to training

Benefits

  • Salary: £28,500–£32,000 depending on experience
  • Work-life balance: Four-day working week with 1:4 weekend rota (two days off in week)
  • Professional development: CPD encouraged and funded
  • Leave: Extra holiday days after two years’ service (up to one week); birthday day off; volunteer day; free flu vaccination
  • Membership & fees: RCVS fees covered
  • Wellbeing: Gym membership; exclusive company discounts and rewards
  • Facilities: Modern equipment and thoughtfully designed workplace with quiet zones and outdoor space
  • Optional OOH: Holiday cover OOH shifts (7pm–8am) available to discuss
