About the Role

This is an opportunity to join an established, spacious stand-alone practice in Sutton Coldfield as a full-time veterinary surgeon. The role offers genuine flexibility to work shift patterns that suit your lifestyle, with weekend duties currently on a 1:3 rota with plans to move to 1:6. You’ll work alongside an experienced clinical team of 5 vets, supported by 5 registered veterinary nurses, and benefit from visiting specialists in orthopaedics and cardiac imaging.

The practice has invested in excellent facilities including 4 consultation rooms, dedicated isolation wards for cats and dogs, a spacious theatre, X-ray capabilities, and a separate dirty procedures room. The team is known for its professional, friendly atmosphere—they recognise that spending 25–40 hours a week at work means quality colleague relationships matter.

Vets for Pets operates over 440 small animal practices across the UK but runs them locally, meaning you’ll get personalised support tailored to your needs, your community, and your patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide small animal veterinary care across a busy, well-equipped practice
  • Contribute to a collaborative team of 5 vets and 5 RVNs
  • Participate in weekend rota duties (currently 1:3, moving towards 1:6)
  • Support CPD development and mentor junior colleagues in a low-turnover practice culture
  • Work flexibly within agreed shift patterns that support work-life balance

Requirements

  • Registered veterinary surgeon (RCVS)
  • Experience in small animal practice
  • Professional, collaborative approach to patient care and teamwork

Vets for Pets Sutton Coldfield is a deceptively large, recently extended stand-alone practice. The team comprises 5 veterinary surgeons, 5 registered veterinary nurses, 1 student veterinary nurse, 2 student veterinary nurses on placement, a practice manager, 3 client care advisors, and an insurance administrator. The practice hosts visiting specialists in orthopaedics and cardiac imaging, offering breadth of clinical experience.
