About the Role

This is a structured 12-month internship designed for newly qualified veterinarians or those seeking to strengthen their emergency and critical care credentials. Whether you’re preparing for residency or building confidence in ECC practice, you’ll work primarily in a well-equipped ICU, managing emergency referrals across multiple disciplines. With a rolling rota and no on-call duties, this role balances meaningful clinical exposure with protected learning time.

You’ll be based at Vets Now Hospital Manchester, a specialist referral centre recognised as a European leader in emergency and critical care. The team includes residency-trained and board-certified ECC clinicians who’ll mentor you through case planning, diagnosis, treatment, and collaborative discussions. Research projects, journal clubs, and teaching opportunities are woven into the programme, giving you exposure to the full breadth of ECC medicine.

The internship starts on 28th September 2026.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver emergency and critical care under close supervision from experienced ECC clinicians
  • Manage ICU patients and emergency referrals, handling clinical work across multiple specialties
  • Participate actively in case planning, diagnosis, treatment decisions, and comprehensive record keeping
  • Engage in collaborative case discussions with residents, clinicians, and the nursing team
  • Contribute to research projects, journal clubs, seminars, and teaching activities
  • Maintain high standards of patient care, clinical professionalism, and animal welfare throughout

Requirements

  • Veterinary degree recognised by the RCVS
  • Eligibility or current registration with the RCVS
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and record-keeping skills
  • Ability to remain calm, prioritise effectively, and perform well under pressure
  • Compassionate, professional, and reliable approach to clinical practice
  • Preferred (not essential): completion of a small animal rotating internship in a multi-disciplinary referral hospital
