About the Role

This is a part-time registered veterinary nursing position at Vets Now’s RCVS-accredited Small Animal Emergency Service Clinic in Salisbury, which has been delivering out-of-hours emergency and critical care since 2010. You’ll be at the heart of clinical treatment, working alongside a skilled emergency team in a fast-paced environment where your nursing expertise directly impacts patient outcomes.

The role operates on a rotating shift pattern across a four-week cycle, offering genuine flexibility: some weeks include overnight shifts (Thursday/Friday 18:00–09:00), while others focus on daytime weekend work (Saturday/Sunday hours). Bank holidays are included in the rota. This structure suits nurses seeking meaningful part-time emergency work without full-time commitment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Triage and first aid – assess cases on arrival, provide telephone advice, and perform immediate stabilisation
  • Critical care nursing – monitor major body systems, track in-patient trends, identify deterioration quickly, manage pain assessment, and perform wound and dressing care
  • Anaesthesia support – assist with induction, maintenance, and recovery protocols
  • Diagnostics – conduct basic diagnostic procedures confidently, including sole charge capacity where required
  • In-patient care – manage feeding, hygiene, medication administration, and physiotherapy for hospitalised animals

Requirements

  • RCVS registration with a minimum of six months post-qualification experience
  • Commitment to maintaining high clinical and hygiene standards
  • Strong communication skills with clients and the team
  • Experience with emergency and critical care caseloads (advantageous but not essential)
  • Flexibility to work the allocated shift pattern including overnight and weekend hours

Benefits

  • Salary: Up to £19 per hour depending on experience
  • Annual leave: 7 weeks pro rata, plus your birthday as a paid day off
  • Professional development: £1,125 CPD allowance plus 20 paid study hours annually; ECC certificate support and RCVS fees paid
  • Health & wellbeing: Private medical insurance, enhanced sick pay, enhanced maternity pay
  • Financial support: UK Standard Pension (5% employee / 3% employer), death in service benefit (2× annual salary)
