🕐 Schedule & Rota

Dedicated out-of-hours night shift role. Variable 4-week rota including weekday and weekend night shifts (18:00–09:00). Week 1: Wednesday; Week 2: Tuesday & Friday; Week 3: Wednesday; Week 4: Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday. Plus bank holiday coverage.

About the Role

This is a part-time, fixed-term position (9 months from August 2026) based at Vets Now’s RCVS-accredited Small Animal Emergency Service Clinic in Salisbury. You’ll be at the heart of emergency and critical care nursing, working variable night shifts across a rotating schedule that includes weekday and weekend coverage.

The Salisbury clinic has been delivering out-of-hours emergency care since 2010 and handles complex emergency and critical care cases without appointment. You’ll work as part of a skilled nursing team supporting everything from first aid and triage through to in-patient monitoring, surgery assistance, and post-operative care. This role offers genuine exposure to ECC nursing across diverse case types.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver first aid advice over the phone and provide hands-on care in clinic
  • Manage critical care patients including monitoring major body systems, tracking in-patient trends, and identifying clinical changes quickly
  • Perform physiotherapy, pain assessment, and wound dressing care
  • Conduct basic diagnostic procedures, including sole charge diagnostic work
  • Support surgical and anaesthetic procedures as part of the nursing team

Requirements

  • RCVS registered for a minimum of six months
  • Motivated to maintain high clinic standards and deliver excellent patient care
  • Genuine passion for client and patient care
  • Experience with ECC caseloads is advantageous but not essential

Working Pattern

The rota varies across a 4-week cycle:

  • Week 1: Wednesday 18:00–09:00
  • Week 2: Tuesday and Friday 18:00–09:00
  • Week 3: Wednesday 18:00–09:00
  • Week 4: Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday 18:00–09:00
  • Plus a fair share of bank holiday shifts
