Rota cycles across 4 weeks: Week 1 – Wednesday & Thursday 19:00–09:00; Week 2 – Tuesday 19:00–09:00, Saturday 12:00–19:30, Sunday 08:30–19:30; Week 3 – Friday, Saturday & Sunday 19:00–09:00; Week 4 – Wednesday & Thursday 19:00–09:00. About the Role

You’ll be joining Vets Now Staines as a part-time ECC veterinary surgeon, working an average of 32 hours per week across a rotating rota of overnight and weekend shifts. This is where you’ll sharpen your emergency and critical care expertise during the hours when daytime practices are closed—working alongside a committed team of vet surgeons, registered veterinary nurses, and animal care assistants to deliver urgent care when pets need it most.

The rota pattern cycles across four weeks, with shifts including Wednesday and Thursday nights (19:00–09:00), selected weekend days and nights, and a share of bank holidays. This structured approach means you’ll know your schedule well in advance, making it easier to plan your life outside the clinic.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide emergency and critical care assessment, diagnosis, and treatment to sick and injured pets presenting during night and weekend hours
  • Work collaboratively with the Staines team of veterinary surgeons and registered veterinary nurses to deliver high-quality patient outcomes
  • Participate in the on-going development of your clinical skills through access to professional qualifications and structured coaching
  • Complete the AdvantEdge programme (one week of hands-on practical training plus 20 hours of flexible, case-based e-learning) to embed confidence and best practice in the ECC setting
  • Contribute to the culture of continuous professional development within the practice

Requirements

  • Veterinary degree and professional registration as a Veterinary Surgeon
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, and bank holidays on a shared rota basis
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and learning in emergency medicine
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced environment

Benefits

  • Salary: Up to £85,000 per annum (pro rata for part-time hours)
  • Recognition Bonus: £10,000 pro rata
  • Relocation Support: Up to £5,000 relocation allowance available
  • Professional Development: £1,500 CPD allowance plus 35 paid hours pro rata annually
  • Annual Leave: 7 weeks pro rata
  • Healthcare: Private medical insurance
  • Family Support: Enhanced company sick pay, maternity, paternity, and adoption pay schemes
  • Pet Care: Up to 50% discounted staff pet care
  • Professional Fees: Professional membership fees covered
  • Training Programmes: Access to AdvantEdge (blended practical and e-learning) and other professional development opportunities
