About the Role

Victoria Vets is seeking an experienced veterinary surgeon to join their established Glossop practice. This is a permanent position working 4 days per week, with weekend duties shared on a 1:7 rota basis including Saturday morning consults and inpatient care. You’ll have genuine flexibility to tailor your role around your interests—whether you prefer client consultations, hands-on surgical cases, or building diagnostic expertise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality small animal clinical care across a varied caseload, from routine consultations to complex cases
  • Interpret diagnostic results and make informed clinical decisions to guide treatment planning
  • Communicate clearly with clients, translating clinical insights into practical advice and managing expectations during challenging situations
  • Design and review treatment protocols that improve patient outcomes and practice efficiency
  • Adapt treatment approaches to suit individual cases and patient needs
  • Contribute to the practice’s diagnostic and treatment capabilities by staying current with latest techniques
  • Support the nursing team (10 RVNs, 1 SVN) and collaborate effectively across both practice branches
  • Typical shift pattern: 2 x 9–6 consult days, 1 x 9–7 ops/inpatient day, 1 x 8–4 second ops day per week

Requirements

  • Qualified veterinary surgeon (RCVS registered)
  • Strong clinical decision-making with ability to interpret diagnostics confidently
  • Excellent communication skills with clients and team members
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience managing complex cases and supporting clients through challenging treatments
  • Willingness to work collaboratively and mentor colleagues
  • Experience level not specified—applications from all qualified vets welcome

Victoria Vets Glossop is an established practice with over 40 years’ history in Glossop and a sister branch in Chapel (20+ years). The team comprises 8 vets (7 FTE), 10 RVNs, 1 SVN, 1 PCA, and 9 client care associates across both locations. The practice is PSS scheme accredited and holds an ECC certificate, reflecting its commitment to quality and emergency care capability.

The practice operates modern diagnostic facilities including digital X-ray, dental X-ray, in-house laboratory suite, and recently upgraded ultrasound and endoscopy equipment. Additional services include acupuncture, physiotherapy, and a range of nurse-led clinics.
