About the Role

Village Vet Hampstead is a 24-hour emergency and critical care hub seeking an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse to lead overnight patient care. This dedicated night position offers clinical variety and autonomy you won’t find in standard practice—you’ll manage emergency surgeries, in-patient care, and critical cases while being fully supported by a Lead Night Veterinary Surgeon and senior clinical team. With annualised hours and the flexibility to swap night blocks for extended leave, this role is designed around genuine work-life balance.

You’ll work within a supportive and highly capable night team consisting of a Registered Veterinary Nurse, Patient Care Assistant, and Veterinary Surgeon, giving you meaningful collaboration and mentorship. The caseload is fast-paced—gastric dilatation-volvulus, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, intensive post-operative monitoring—but the environment is well-supported with structured handovers between day and night teams ensuring continuity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overnight nursing care for hospitalised and emergency patients across four floors of facilities
  • Perform emergency triage and assist with critical medical management
  • Support emergency surgical and medical cases during night shifts
  • Participate in structured patient handovers to ensure seamless continuity of care
  • Conduct nurse consultations and contribute to clinical protocols and patient care standards
  • Work collaboratively with the overnight team (RVN, PCA, Vet) and wider hospital clinical community

Requirements

  • Registered Veterinary Nurse with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons
  • Minimum two years’ post-qualification experience in small animal practice
  • Experience or strong demonstrated interest in emergency and critical care and in-patient management
  • Confidence working overnight independently within a supportive team environment
  • Strong communication and organisational skills

Benefits

  • Competitive salary up to £37,000 per annum (full-time equivalent based on 40-hour week), dependent on experience
  • Annualised hours providing flexibility to arrange extended blocks of leave and swap night shifts
  • RCVS and VDS registration fees paid
  • Employer contribution pension scheme
  • Life assurance
  • Electric car salary sacrifice scheme
  • Enhanced equal family leave
  • Relocation support (where eligible)
  • Extensive internal and funded external CPD, including support towards further professional certifications
  • Career development pathway within emergency and critical care nursing
  • Mental Health First Aider support and confidential Employee Assistance Programme
