Ready to join a practice where you're genuinely valued as a clinical professional? Wallace Vets offers real work-life balance, clinical variety across three sites, and a team that feels like family—with no routine nights required.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

1-in-8 weekends (Saturday and Sunday only). No routine nights or on-call—dedicated night team covers 24/7 in-house care. Occasional night shifts available as optional opportunity to develop emergency skills.

About the Role

Wallace Vets is looking for a dedicated RVN who wants to make a real impact in patient care. Whether you’re experienced, newly qualified, or finishing your NPL and awaiting OSCEs, they’ll support you. You’ll work hands-on every day with inpatient care, diagnostics, radiography, dental procedures, client education, and clinical decision-making across three busy sites in Broughty Ferry, Carnoustie, and Arbroath. With a manageable 1-in-8 weekend rota and no routine nights (a dedicated night team handles 24/7 in-house care), you’ll actually have time to live your life outside the clinic.

This is an independent practice where you can rotate across different sites with no fixed pattern—they tailor scheduling to suit your life and preferences. One week might be diagnostic-heavy; another packed with surgical support. The variety means no two weeks look the same, unless you want them to.

Set in picturesque coastal towns, Dundee is Scotland’s sunniest city and has been named one of Europe’s top destinations by Lonely Planet. You’re just 20–30 minutes from beaches, hiking trails, and the Glens, and within an hour of Edinburgh. It’s far more affordable than many parts of Scotland, making it an ideal place to work and explore.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver hands-on inpatient care across the three-practice group, rotating between Broughty Ferry, Carnoustie, and Arbroath
  • Perform diagnostics, radiography, and dental nursing procedures
  • Support surgical nursing and clinical decision-making under Schedule 3 (including minor surgery)
  • Provide client education and nursing care that reflects high clinical standards
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment with 60 staff members across all sites
  • Consider pursuing clinical interests (ECC, consulting, behaviour, nutrition, surgical nursing) with full practice support

Requirements

  • Current RVN registration (or newly qualified, or soon-to-qualify awaiting OSCEs)
  • Strong clinical nursing skills and passion for patient care
  • Ability to work across multiple sites and adapt to varying schedules
  • Team-focused mindset with good communication skills
  • Flexibility and willingness to embrace variety in day-to-day work

Benefits

  • Salary: Salary up to £37,125 (pro-rata), depending on experience & whether you work 3, 4, or 5 days a week
  • All overtime paid
  • 6 weeks annual leave, increasing with service (every 4 years)
  • Funded CPD and certificates
  • Paid RCVS and VDS fees
  • Private medical insurance
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity pay
  • Pension scheme
  • Staff discounts and wellbeing perks
  • Options to pay outstanding training costs with current employer
  • Schedule 3 freedom to expand your clinical scope
  • Genuine flexibility in scheduling around your lifestyle

About the Practice

Wallace Vets is an independent family-run veterinary practice serving Dundee and Angus since 2004. Operating across three sites—Broughty Ferry, Carnoustie, and Arbroath—the practice has grown from a single location to a thriving group of nearly 60 team members. Open 7 days a week and available 24 hours a day, they provide complete veterinary services with pet welfare at the heart of everything they do. The practice recently earned BVA Great Workplace – Silver Accreditation, recognising their commitment to teamwork, flexibility, and creating a culture where every voice is valued. With one owner-director who still works clinically, decisions happen quickly and good ideas are put into action without delay. The team includes four Head Nurses across the group plus a clinical manager dedicated to developing people and supporting performance.

Beyond clinical excellence, Wallace Vets fosters a vibrant team culture. Staff organise regular social activities—from goat yoga and cocktail nights to dog walks, wild swimming groups, and fitness challenges—plus an annual summer party and Christmas night out. The team is actively involved in their communities, supporting local initiatives, sports groups, and charities.
