Ready to be a clinical professional, not support staff? Wallace Vets treats RVNs as the skilled clinicians they are—with a four-day week, a balanced 1:8 weekend rota, and genuine opportunities to lead nurse consults, mentor students, and develop your career without burnout.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

1:8 weekend rota; no emergency on-call required due to dedicated in-house night team providing 24/7 cover

About the Role

Wallace Vets is seeking an RVN who wants to practice at the full scope of their training. You’ll work across a range of Schedule 3 procedures—from minor surgeries and anaesthesia management to leading your own nurse consults in areas like diabetic care, vaccination clinics, and post-operative checks. This is clinical work that matches your qualification, not admin dressed up as nursing.

The practice operates a standard four-day week with flexible options to work three or five days instead. A balanced 1-in-8 weekend rota means genuine time off, and with a dedicated in-house night team providing 24/7 emergency cover, you’ll never be on call—enabling proper work-life balance and uninterrupted personal time.

You’ll be part of a supportive, team-led environment where clinical freedom is encouraged, protocols are developed collaboratively, and further training—whether in ECC, surgical nursing, or consulting—is actively supported. Student mentoring, diagnostics, radiography, dental procedures, and client education are all core to the role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform the full range of Schedule 3 procedures: minor surgeries, IV placement, anaesthesia management, and medical treatments
  • Lead and conduct independent nurse consults including second vaccinations, diabetic clinics, parasite control, and post-operative checks
  • Manage inpatient care, diagnostics, and radiography with clinical autonomy
  • Perform dental procedures and contribute to clinical decision-making
  • Mentor student nurses and support their development
  • Contribute to protocol development within the practice
  • Provide client education and support throughout treatment pathways

Requirements

  • Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) qualification
  • Full-time employment eligibility
  • Commitment to clinical excellence and professional development

Benefits

  • Flexible Salary Structure: 5-day contract (40 hrs): £29,000–£32,000 | 4-day contract (36 hrs): £26,000–£29,000 | 3-day contract (27.5 hrs): £20,000–£22,000. All overtime paid in addition.
  • Competitive salary with transparent banding
  • CPD funding and professional certificates fully covered
  • Professional fees paid by the practice
  • Private health insurance
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity pay
  • Pension scheme
  • 6 weeks annual leave, increasing with service (every 4 years)
  • Staff benefits package
  • Options to cover outstanding training costs with previous employers

About the Practice

Wallace Vets operates across Dundee and Angus, Scotland, with a core philosophy that RVNs are essential clinical professionals. The practice maintains its own in-house 24/7 emergency and critical care team, meaning day-shift nursing roles are genuinely separated from night duties. This setup allows clinical nurses to focus fully on daytime caseload without emergency call-out pressures.

Wallace Vets is part of the XLVets community—a network of independent practices committed to professional development, clinical autonomy, and supportive team cultures. The practice actively encourages nurses to pursue specialisms, contribute to clinical protocols, and develop leadership skills within a culture that values their professional standing.
