Ready to be a clinical professional, not just support staff? Wallace Vets empowers RVNs to do what you trained for—leading consults, managing anaesthesia, mentoring students—with a genuine 1-in-8 weekend rota and flexible three, four, or five-day contracts.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

1-in-8 weekend rota. Dedicated night team provides 24/7 in-house emergency cover; RVNs do not have on-call duties outside scheduled rota shifts.

About the Role

Wallace Vets is seeking an RVN who wants genuine clinical autonomy and professional recognition. This role offers the full scope of Schedule 3 procedures—minor surgeries, IV placement, anaesthesia management, and leading nurse-led clinics including second vaccinations, diabetic management, and post-operative checks. You’ll be involved in inpatient care, diagnostics, radiography, and dental procedures, with active encouragement to mentor students, contribute to protocol development, and pursue further training in specialisms like ECC or surgical nursing.

The practice prioritises work-life balance with flexible contracts (three-day, four-day, or five-day weeks) and a manageable 1-in-8 weekend rota. A dedicated night team provides 24/7 in-house emergency cover, so you won’t face on-call duties disrupting your sleep. You’ll join a supportive, inclusive team culture that values clinical freedom and professional development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform the full range of Schedule 3 nursing procedures: minor surgeries, IV placement, anaesthesia management, and wound care
  • Lead nurse-focused clinics including second vaccinations, diabetic clinics, parasite control, and post-operative checks
  • Contribute to inpatient care, diagnostics, radiography, and dental procedures
  • Mentor student nurses and contribute to practice protocol development
  • Engage in clinical decision-making and client education
  • Pursue continued professional development in areas of clinical interest

Requirements

  • Current RVN registration (RCVS)
  • Commitment to utilising your full clinical scope and professional development
  • Experience in small animal practice preferred

Benefits

  • Flexible Contracts: Choose from 3-day (27.5 hrs, £20k–£22k), 4-day (36 hrs, £26k–£29k), or 5-day (40 hrs, £29k–£32k) arrangements. All overtime is paid.
  • Competitive salary with flexibility to suit your lifestyle
  • CPD and professional certificates funded and actively encouraged
  • Professional fees paid by the practice
  • Private health insurance
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity pay
  • Staff benefits package
  • Pension scheme
  • 6 weeks annual leave, increasing with service (additional week every 4 years)
  • Supportive, team-led environment with clinical freedom
  • 1-in-8 weekend rota—no emergency on-call duties
  • Options available for the practice to cover outstanding training costs with previous employers

About the Practice

Wallace Vets is a progressive small animal practice firmly committed to recognising RVNs as essential clinical professionals rather than support staff. The practice actively empowers nurses to utilise their full skill set, grow professionally, and feel genuinely valued within a collaborative team environment.

The practice operates with a dedicated night team providing 24/7 in-house emergency and critical care cover, allowing daytime nursing staff to maintain healthy work-life balance without call-out responsibilities. Wallace Vets fosters a positive, inclusive culture with emphasis on clinical freedom, flexibility, and continuous professional development opportunities.
