About the Role

You’ll deliver high-quality medical and surgical care to small animals at a thriving two-site practice where every team member is valued and heard. This is a daytime-only role with manageable Saturday commitments (1 in 5, negotiable) and no out-of-hours requirements, giving you genuine control over your schedule. The practice is well-equipped with modern facilities and a close-knit team that prioritises open communication and collaborative case discussion—meaning you’ll never feel like you’re making clinical decisions in a vacuum.

Based in Cwmbran, a well-connected town offering easy access to local amenities and green spaces, you’ll be just 10–15 minutes from Newport and within easy reach of Cardiff. Whether you’re drawn to city life, the Brecon Beacons, or the Glamorgan coast, this location works as your base for work and play.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consultations, diagnostics, and treatment planning for small animal patients
  • Perform routine and elective surgical procedures, including neutering
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships through clear communication and compassionate guidance
  • Contribute to collaborative case management and clinical discussion within the team
  • Utilise the practice’s comprehensive diagnostic and surgical facilities to deliver confident clinical care

Requirements

  • Full RCVS registration as a Veterinary Surgeon
  • Experience in small animal medicine and surgery (level of experience not specified—discussed at interview)
  • Strong communication skills and commitment to client education and welfare
  • Willingness to work as part of a collaborative team

Wellpets Avondale is a growing small animal practice with two well-equipped sites operated by a close-knit team proud of fostering a supportive, collaborative environment. The practice is equipped with comprehensive laboratory equipment (biochemistry and haematology analysers, SNAP test reader, centrifuge, microscope), advanced diagnostic tools (ultrasound, Doppler blood pressure monitoring, pulse oximetry, multiparameter monitoring, Bair Hugger warming system), a fully equipped dental suite with dental X-ray, and digital X-ray facilities.
