Veterinary Receptionist

About the Role

This is a part-time receptionist position at a busy equine and farm practice nestled in rural Norfolk, just minutes from Fakenham racecourse. You’ll be the friendly face (and voice) managing client appointments primarily over the phone, while supporting the wider team with day-to-day practice operations. It’s a varied role that blends reception duties with some hands-on practice work—and if you have equine experience, you may be involved in horse handling too.

Working 4.5 days a week plus every third Saturday morning, you’ll have genuine flexibility built into your schedule. The practice has a close-knit feel: four vets (one with equine dental expertise), four support staff, and a shared passion for horses that extends to the team’s own riding interests.

Key Responsibilities

• Managing appointment bookings, predominantly by phone, with strong customer service focus
• Supporting daily practice operations and administrative tasks
• Assisting with horse handling as required
• Working across both equine and farm animal client care
• Contributing to the smooth running of a practice that also supplies vets to Fakenham Racecourse and the Royal Norfolk Show

Requirements

• Strong telephone manner and customer service skills
• Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook (desirable but training provided)
• Equine knowledge and experience (ideally, though full in-house training is offered)
• Willingness to be hands-on and flexible

About the Practice

Wensum Valley Veterinary Surgeons is a well-established equine and farm animal practice serving rural Norfolk from its base on Dereham Road, Fakenham. The team of four vets brings genuine expertise—one holds an equine dental certificate—and the practice has built strong relationships with local studs and farms, as well as supplying vets to Fakenham Racecourse and the Royal Norfolk Show. Several team members are accomplished riders, reflecting the practice’s genuine connection to the equine community.

Part of IVC Evidensia, the practice combines independent values with the resources and support of a wider group. There’s also a sister small animal practice in town (Summerhill Vet Centre), creating a collaborative network across Fakenham.
