1:4 weekend on-call rota plus 1 weeknight shift (5:30pm–8am) on rotation

About the Role

You’ll be joining Westmorland Veterinary Group as a Farm Animal Veterinary Surgeon, working across two picturesque practices in Kendal and Kirkby Lonsdale—just 13 minutes apart. This is a full-time position (part-time hours considered for the right candidate) that blends hands-on clinical work with herd health consultancy for a diverse client base of dairy, beef and sheep farms.

The role includes a shared 1:4 weekend on-call rota plus one weeknight shift (5:30pm–8am) on rotation. You’ll have flexibility around which location you start your day from, and both surgeries benefit from excellent facilities and supportive nursing teams. Accommodation and a practice vehicle are available to the successful candidate.

The Lakes and Dales setting offers outstanding outdoor living, walking, and adventure opportunities, with good transport links making it accessible without feeling remote.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver excellent clinical care to dairy, beef and sheep farming enterprises across both practice sites
  • Contribute to herd health planning and farm consultancy work
  • Lead clinical cases including calvings and complex surgical work, supported by the nursing team
  • Share out-of-hours on-call duties on a 1:4 weekend rota and weeknight rotation
  • Work collaboratively within a team of four farm veterinarians

Requirements

  • Qualified Veterinary Surgeon registered with the RCVS
  • Confident in farm animal (cattle, sheep, dairy/beef) clinical work
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Willingness to undertake shared on-call duties as per the rota
