Westway Veterinary Group - Main Surgery
Apply before: Mar 18, 2026
Weekend rota: 1 in 6 Saturdays and 1 in 8 Sundays. May change on business need. Day and night positions available; shifts are 10 hours as part of four-day week.
This is a full-time RVN position at Westway Veterinary Group’s flagship West Road Hospital in Newcastle—a 100% small animal practice that’s been caring for pets across the North East since 1975. You’ll work 40 hours per week on a four-day rotation with 10-hour shifts, including weekend commitments (currently 1 in 6 Saturdays and 1 in 8 Sundays). The hospital is part of a progressive 15-site group supported by a Tier 3 RCVS facility, so you’ll have access to specialist services and continued professional development that genuinely matters.
You’ll be part of a dynamic team of over 50 nursing professionals—Senior Nurses, RVNs, Student RVNs, and Animal Nursing Assistants—in a practice that prioritises team wellbeing and sociability. The practice holds ISFM Gold Standard status and silver Investor in the Environment accreditation, reflecting their commitment to standards beyond the clinic.
An ideal candidate would have (or be keen to develop) an interest in clinical coaching, laparoscopic surgery, orthopaedics, or working with the hospital’s Computed Tomography (CT) service. This is a chance to be genuinely involved in advancing your clinical skills in a supportive environment.
Westway Veterinary Group has been a cornerstone of North East veterinary care since 1975, now operating 15 practices across Tyne and Wear, Durham, and Northumberland. The West Road Hospital is their flagship facility—a Tier 3 RCVS-supported hospital with highly skilled teams, excellent operating theatres, in-house diagnostic equipment, and a separate dedicated feline unit recognised with Gold Standard Cat Friendly Clinic status. The practice is part of VetPartners, a group committed to high clinical standards and excellent patient and client care.
The practice values career satisfaction and professional development for all team members. Many staff hold veterinary and nursing certificates, and the majority of customer care team members are BVRA accredited. They are an ISFM Gold Standard practice, a silver Investor in the Environment practice, and proud to be an Endometriosis Friendly Employer.
