Veterinary Surgeon – Small Animal

Apply before: May 1, 2026

Up to £60,000/yr DOE
Sheffield, Yorkshire and The Humber
Full Time, Part Time
No OOH
No out-of-hours shifts, genuine work-life balance, and a supportive Yorkshire team that actually has your back. White Cross Vets in Sheffield is looking for a small animal vet ready to work smarter, not harder.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

No out-of-hours shifts required. Saturday clinics on a rota with time off in lieu.

About the Role

This is a full-time or flexible small animal position at a thriving 3.5-vet practice in Handsworth, Sheffield. You’ll work 40 hours over four days with Saturdays on a manageable rota (with time off in lieu), and—genuinely—no out-of-hours cover required. The schedule is built around quality: 15-minute standard consults with 30 minutes allocated when cases need it, plus protected admin time each day so you’re not drowning in paperwork.

You’ll split your week between consultations, surgical work, and assisting colleagues, with flexibility to lean into what you enjoy most. The practice sits just 5 minutes off Sheffield Parkway and 10 minutes from the M1, making the commute straightforward. Behind the scenes, a dedicated Central Support Team in Leeds handles HR, finance and operations, so you can focus entirely on clinical work and patient care.

Beyond Handsworth, you’ll have access to the broader White Cross network across Leeds, Bradford, and Doncaster—where vets hold certificates in Internal Medicine, Dentistry, Emergency & Critical Care, and Imaging. This means learning opportunities and mentorship are genuinely woven into your week, not just offered once a year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality small animal consultations and surgical procedures in a supportive, well-resourced environment
  • Collaborate with a team of 3.5 passionate RVNs, a student nurse, and a strong veterinary care assistant
  • Contribute to case development and clinical learning through protected weekly CPD time and shadowing opportunities across the practice network
  • Work flexibly between first opinions, surgical cases, and assisting colleagues based on your preferences and clinic flow
  • Participate in the rota Saturday clinics with guaranteed time off in lieu to maintain genuine work-life balance

Requirements

  • Qualified veterinary surgeon registered with the RCVS
  • Small animal clinical experience (no specific minimum stated—all experience levels considered)
  • Willingness to work collaboratively within a supportive team environment

Benefits

  • Salary & Relocation: Up to £60,000 depending on experience, plus up to £2,500 relocation allowance and welcome bonus
  • Work-Life Balance: 6.6 weeks annual leave (including bank holidays), birthday off, no out-of-hours shifts, 40-hour week over 4 days
  • CPD & Professional Development: £1,250 annual CPD allowance, 40 hours paid CPD leave, certificate funding with flexibility, protected weekly time for case follow-up and development, access to Vetlexicon and IVC Academy, £1,250 Care Fund, shadowing across practice network
  • Health & Wellbeing: Private Medical Insurance, 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme, exclusive White Cross support line, enhanced family-friendly policies, ongoing wellbeing initiatives
  • Professional Support: BVA membership, VDS cover
  • Extras: Pension scheme, Cycle to Work scheme, Green Car scheme, retail discounts and cashback, free health plan spots for your own pets
