Ready to join a practice that genuinely values flexibility? White Cross Vets offers you the rare gift of a rota tailored to your life—no nights, no out-of-hours, just rewarding small animal nursing with a supportive team that actually feels like family.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

No out-of-hours duties. Saturday mornings on rota with time off in lieu. Inpatients transferred to another site—no overnight care responsibilities.

About the Role

This is a dynamic small animal nursing position where you’ll work across the full breadth of clinical practice with modern equipment and a collaborative team. Based in Northampton’s Weston Favell Shopping Centre, you’ll find a practice committed to genuine work-life balance—choose between four longer days or five shorter days each week, with Saturdays on a rota (time off in lieu) and zero overnight duties. Inpatients are transferred to another site, so you’ll never be managing overnight care alone.

You’ll be at the heart of patient care, from theatre support and anaesthetics through to leading nurse clinics in areas like weight management and diabetic care. The practice welcomes your input in developing services, and as a training practice, you’ll also mentor student veterinary nurses as they develop their skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide theatre support including anaesthetic management and surgical assistance
  • Lead inpatient care from patient induction through post-operative monitoring
  • Develop and deliver nurse-led clinics (weight management, diabetic support, post-operative checks)
  • Perform radiography using digital and dental X-ray equipment, and conduct ultrasound examinations
  • Mentor student veterinary nurses as part of the practice’s training programme
  • Maintain the highest standards of patient care and clinical nursing practice

Requirements

  • Current RCVS registration as a Registered Veterinary Nurse
  • Strong clinical knowledge and practical nursing experience in small animal practice
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Commitment to continuous professional development
  • A proactive, problem-solving approach to patient and team care

Benefits

  • Holiday: 6.6 weeks annual leave including bank holidays (pro rata), with increasing allowance based on service, plus your birthday as a paid day off
  • Professional Development: £550 annual CPD allowance with 24 hours paid time (pro rata), certificate support, access to IVC Evidensia Academy, Vetlexicon online encyclopaedia, and eligibility for research funding
  • Wellbeing & Family Support: Enhanced maternity, paternity, adoption, shared parental and surrogacy pay; up to 4 days paid leave for new pets; non-accidental injury support; private medical insurance; 2 discretionary wellbeing days
  • Professional Memberships: VDS cover and RCVS fees paid
  • Additional Perks: Cycle to Work scheme, discounted gym membership, Pawsome Benefits reward gateway (discounts and cashback with hundreds of retailers), 5 paid volunteer days annually, discounted staff pet care
  • Pension: 5% employee contribution with 3% employer match

About the Practice

White Cross Vets is part of IVC Evidensia, the first veterinary organisation in the UK to be certified as a Top Employer 2025 by the Top Employers Institute. The practice operates with four core principles—quality, integrity, responsibility, and growth—and has cultivated a team with a genuine family ethos that extends to regular social gatherings and wellbeing initiatives.

The team comprises five veterinary surgeons, four registered veterinary nurses, one student veterinary nurse, and three client care team members. The practice is well-equipped with modern diagnostic and surgical facilities including digital X-ray, dental X-ray, and ultrasound, and welcomes dogs, cats, and small exotic pets. As a recognised training practice, the team is invested in developing the next generation of veterinary professionals.
