Join a collaborative team of 8 experienced vets who actually close the diary for monthly wellbeing afternoons and support your clinical development. Work across two well-equipped practices with a manageable 1:4 Saturday rota and genuine work-life balance.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

1:4 Saturday mornings rota with time off given in lieu during the week. No overnight or night shifts mentioned.

About the Role

You’ll be joining White Cross Vets across their two St Helens and Widnes locations, working within a progressive small animal team that thrives on collaboration and continuous learning. This full-time or part-time position offers genuine flexibility—your normal week spans 40 hours across 4 days, with Saturday mornings shared on a 1:4 rota and time off given in lieu during the week. The ideal arrangement sees you working set days at each clinic to build continuity for clients and cases.

The team values case discussions, in-house workups where possible, and a supportive approach to daily practice. Beyond clinical work, the practice invests in team wellbeing through monthly social afternoons—think pub quizzes, sports days, Christmas dinners, and bake-offs—ensuring you’re supported as a whole person, not just a clinician.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide small animal veterinary care across two established practices in the North West
  • Work set operating and consulting days tailored to your skills and preferences
  • Contribute to a collaborative approach to clinical cases and in-house diagnostics
  • Participate in the team’s progressive clinical culture, with active support for certificate advancement and specialisation
  • Engage with the practice’s quality improvement and infection prevention initiatives

Requirements

  • Qualified veterinary surgeon registered with the RCVS
  • Small animal practice experience preferred, though the team values the diverse skills all vets bring
  • Collaborative mindset with a commitment to case discussion and team learning
  • Flexibility around rota arrangements (Saturday mornings 1:4)

Benefits

  • Leave & Time Off: 6.6 weeks annual leave including bank holidays, plus birthday holiday entitlement
  • Professional Development: £1,250 annual CPD allowance with 40 hours paid CPD leave (pro rata), certificate support, access to IVC Evidensia Academy, Vetlexicon online resource, and research funding opportunities
  • Wellbeing & Health: Private medical insurance, 24/7 employee assistance programme, enhanced family-friendly policies (maternity, paternity, adoption, shared parental, surrogacy pay)
  • Financial: Competitive base salary up to £65,000 (DOE), up to £5,000 relocation allowance, company pension with employer contribution
  • Professional Support: BVA membership, VDS cover, RCVS fees covered, Care Fund (£1,250 per annum to spend on causes you care about)
  • Lifestyle Schemes: Cycle to Work scheme, Green Cars scheme, voluntary benefits with retailer discounts/cashback, discounted pet treatment at IVC Evidensia practices

About the Practice

White Cross Vets operates two well-equipped small animal practices serving St Helens and Widnes. The team comprises 8 experienced veterinary surgeons with diverse certificate holdings in medicine, surgery, imaging, GP, and ophthalmology. The nursing teams also bring multiple certifications in behaviour, anaesthesia, surgery, and consulting. The practices are equipped with modern diagnostics including new ultrasound machines, digital radiography, IM3 dental processor, Tonopen, slit lamp, and in-house laboratory equipment.

Part of IVC Evidensia (part of Mars Veterinary Health), White Cross Vets operates as a progressive practice committed to colleague wellbeing, clinical excellence, and investment in people.
