About the Role

Wright and Morten Equine Vets is a well-established 8.5-vet team providing a comprehensive range of ambulatory and clinic-based equine services across Cheshire. You’ll be joining a genuinely close-knit, supportive practice that prioritises finding the right cultural fit alongside clinical skills. This is a 6-month maternity cover position with the possibility of extending into a longer-term contract.

The role is structured around Monday to Friday, 8:30am–5:30pm, with most vets finishing by 5pm on many days. There’s genuine flexibility here—whether you want full-time hours, part-time arrangements, or even week-on-week-off OOH cover, the practice is open to discussion to find what works for you and your life.

You’ll work with a talented team of specialists, including certificate holders in Equine Orthopaedics, Internal Medicine, Equine Dentistry, and Equine Lameness. The practice combines a lovely client base of leisure and sports horses with excellent facilities, including clinic space for inpatient care, elective surgery, in-house laboratory work, and a full range of ambulatory equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver routine and ambulatory emergency equine work with confidence
  • Provide both yard-based and clinic-based clinical services to horses
  • Work alongside specialist colleagues to develop your own cases and expand your skillset
  • Opportunity to lead anaesthesia and surgery cases if interested (not essential)
  • Collaborate with the nursing team to support both clinic and yard work

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years’ post-qualification experience in equine practice
  • Confidence with routine and ambulatory emergency work
  • Willingness to engage in OOH duties (current rota: 1 in 5) OR openness to discussing alternative arrangements—OOH is negotiable for the right candidate
  • Preference for full-time hours, but part-time arrangements will be considered
