Veterinary Surgeon, Small Animal

About the Role

This is a full-time permanent position with no out-of-hours or on-call responsibilities, making it an ideal opportunity for vets seeking genuine work-life balance. You'll have the flexibility to choose between 4 x 10-hour days or 5 x 8-hour days, with Saturday shifts on a rota basis and time off in lieu. The practice actively supports individual circumstances and flexible rota patterns to maintain wellbeing.

You'll work as part of a clinical team alongside 13 veterinary surgeons, the majority of whom hold certificates in various small animal disciplines, alongside 18 registered veterinary nurses and support staff. Based in picturesque Northamptonshire with excellent links to London and Birmingham, the practice offers a blend of sporting, recreational and cultural activities alongside professional development.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality patient and client care across a varied and rewarding small animal caseload
• Work collaboratively with the wider practice team, including referral veterinary surgeons and nursing staff
• Develop your clinical skills and interests while supporting colleagues' ongoing development
• Follow cases through advanced investigations and treatments, including endoscopy, CT, digital radiography, Doppler ultrasonography, dental procedures and mobile MRI services
• Contribute positively to the clinical culture of the practice with professionalism and reliability

Requirements

• Veterinary degree and RCVS registration or eligibility to register
• Experience working in clinical practice with growing confidence in routine medical and surgical cases
• Strong communication skills and ability to build effective relationships with clients and colleagues
• Proactive approach to learning, with openness to feedback and development
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Abington Park is a friendly, caring small animal practice established in 1985, now operating as a 3-centre group across Northampton and beyond. The practice provides comprehensive services for cats, dogs, rabbits, small furries and exotic animals, serving both their own clients and accepting referrals from other practices. Referral work takes place at the Abington and Moulton surgeries.
