About the Role
Join Alphavet as a senior clinician in a dual-site practice where leadership means something real. You'll split your time between Langstone and Risca, combining approximately 75% clinical work with mentoring, strategy, and team development responsibilities. This is a hybrid role that values both your surgical skills and your ability to inspire colleagues—whether you're performing advanced orthopaedics or coaching junior vets through complex cases.
The practice offers modern, well-equipped facilities at both locations, with particular strength in advanced procedures including laparoscopy and orthopaedic surgery. You'll work across 4–5 days per week with a manageable 1 in 5 Saturday rota (8:00am–12:30pm), giving you genuine work-life balance while remaining clinically engaged.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality clinical care across consultations, surgery, and inpatient management at both Langstone and Risca sites
- Provide clinical leadership and mentoring to a team of 3 veterinary surgeons, experienced nurses, and reception staff
- Contribute to case discussions, clinical decision-making, and ongoing team development
- Support the practice's strategic direction and help shape clinical protocols and standards
- Lead by example across both sites to ensure continuity of care and a collaborative team culture
- Develop and expand clinical interests in advanced areas such as orthopaedics and laparoscopy
Requirements
- Veterinary degree and current RCVS registration (or eligibility to register)
- Proven experience in primary care clinical practice with growing confidence in routine medical and surgical cases
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and support colleagues
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with clients and colleagues
- Proactive approach to learning, with openness to feedback and development
- Professionalism, reliability, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Enthusiasm for clinical leadership and contributing to practice strategy (essential mindset, not necessarily prior management experience)

About the Practice
Alphavet Veterinary Centre is a well-established dual-site small animal practice serving the Newport area with locations in Langstone and Risca. The practice is known for its modern, well-equipped facilities and a team of RCVS advanced practitioners and surgical certificate holders. At Langstone, you'll have access to separate dog and cat wards, dental suite, x-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, laparoscopy, and advanced orthopaedic and spinal equipment. Risca offers 3 consult rooms, digital x-ray, ultrasound, in-house lab, and dental suite.
