Ready to grow your clinical skills in a supportive, dual-site practice with real flexibility? AlphaVets offers clinical freedom, state-of-the-art facilities, and genuine career development—without the compromise.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

1:5 Saturday morning rota, 8am–12:30pm. No overnight or night shift requirement mentioned.

About the Role

Join AlphaVets as a Veterinary Surgeon and gain access to a practice environment built for clinical growth. You’ll deliver consulting, surgical, and inpatient care across two well-equipped locations, with the flexibility to specialise in areas that excite you—whether that’s advanced orthopaedic work-ups, laparoscopic procedures, or a consulting-only pathway if that suits your career stage. This is a Monday–Friday role with one day off per week, plus a relaxed 1:5 Saturday morning rota (8am–12:30pm), giving you genuine work-life balance in a small animal setting.

The practice is undergoing expansion: the Risca branch relocates to a new purpose-built facility in 2026, while the Langstone site continues offering advanced surgical capabilities. You’ll work with a tight-knit clinical team of three experienced vets, qualified nurses (including RCVS advanced practitioners and surgical certificate holders), and dedicated reception staff who genuinely support each other.

Since 1996, AlphaVets has invested continuously in facilities—digital radiography, ultrasound, in-house lab, advanced dental equipment, and dedicated surgical spaces. This is a place where your clinical interests are encouraged, not sidelined.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-standard patient and client care across a varied caseload of routine medical and surgical cases
  • Collaborate with three veterinary surgeons and the nursing team on consulting, surgical procedures, and inpatient management
  • Pursue and develop your clinical interests, whether orthopaedic work-ups, laparoscopy, dentistry, or general practice excellence
  • Share knowledge and experience with colleagues, contributing positively to clinical culture and supporting team development
  • Work both independently and collaboratively as an integral member of the clinical team

Requirements

  • Veterinary degree and RCVS registration (or eligibility to register)
  • Experience working in clinical practice with growing confidence in routine medical and surgical cases
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build effective relationships with clients and colleagues
  • Proactive approach to learning, openness to feedback and development
  • Professionalism, reliability, and collaborative attitude

Benefits

  • Salary: Up to £75,000 DOE, with welcome bonus up to £3,000 and relocation allowance up to £3,000
  • Time off: 6.6 weeks’ annual holiday including bank holidays
  • Learning & development: £1,250 annual CPD allowance, access to IVC Evidensia Academy training centres and role-relevant courses, mentorship from regional clinical coaches, peer networks
  • Healthcare: Private medical insurance, enhanced family leave and pay (maternity, paternity, adoption, surrogacy)
  • Professional support: BVA membership, VDS cover, and RCVS fees covered
  • Care Fund: £1,250 annual Care Fund for personal development and wellbeing
  • Lifestyle schemes: Cycle to Work and Green Car schemes (eligibility applies), retail discounts and cashback offers
  • Pet care: Reduced-cost veterinary care for your own pets
  • Career pathways: Clear progression opportunities across primary care, referral, leadership, and specialist roles
