About the Role
You'll take on a senior position at AlphaVets' Langstone and Risca branches, a dual-site practice that's been serving Newport and Gwent since 1996. This hybrid role splits your time between clinical work (~75%) and leadership responsibilities, giving you the chance to drive clinical excellence, mentor colleagues, and shape the practice's direction while maintaining a varied and rewarding caseload. The practice is RCVS accredited with a strong reputation for longer consultations and individual patient attention.
Working full-time across 4–5 days per week, you'll enjoy a 1 in 5 Saturday rota (mornings only, 8:00am–12:30pm), meaning your weekends are largely protected. The modern facilities and team culture prioritise clinical freedom and collaborative problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality clinical care across consultations, surgery, and inpatient management
- Provide clinical leadership and mentoring to the wider team of 3 veterinary surgeons, experienced nurses, and reception staff
- Contribute to case discussions and clinical decision-making, supporting the team's ongoing development
- Work across both Langstone and Risca sites to ensure continuity of care and strategic alignment
- Support the practice's growth, performance, and future direction
- Lead advanced procedures including orthopaedic and laparoscopic surgery
Requirements
- Veterinary degree and RCVS registration (or eligibility to register)
- Experience working in clinical practice with growing confidence in routine medical and surgical cases
- Strong communication skills and ability to build effective relationships with clients and colleagues
- Proactive approach to learning, with openness to feedback and development
- Professionalism, reliability, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Experience or demonstrated commitment to mentoring and team development is desirable

About the Practice
AlphaVets is a well-established, vet-owned small animal practice operating two sites in Langstone and Risca since 1996. The practice is known for longer-than-average consultations and individual patient attention, with a loyal local community. It's RCVS accredited and also supports neighbouring practices with referral cases, offering visiting specialist services in dermatology and ophthalmology.
The Langstone branch features separate dog/cat wards, dental suite, X-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, laparoscopy, and advanced orthopaedic and spinal equipment. The Risca branch has 3 consult rooms, digital X-ray, ultrasound, in-house lab, dental suite, and sterilisation room. The team includes certificate holders with RCVS advanced practitioner and surgical qualifications.
