About the Role

This is a full-time nursing position in a well-equipped, friendly small animal practice located in Oswestry. You'll work 37.5 hours per week across two sites (Brownlow Vets Pets Ellesmere and Border Vets Pets Oswestry), with a straightforward Monday to Friday schedule (8:30am to 6:30pm with Tuesdays off) plus a manageable 1 in 3 Saturday rota (8:30am to 1:00pm). Crucially, there is no out-of-hours commitment, giving you genuine work-life balance.

The practice sits in a charming countryside location near Oswestry, Shropshire, with easy access to major cities including Manchester, Chester, Shrewsbury, and Birmingham. You'll be surrounded by independent shops, cafes, restaurants, and scenic walking routes, making it an ideal setting for those seeking both professional growth and quality of life.

You'll work closely with experienced Veterinary Surgeons and support staff, many of whom hold advanced qualifications in surgery, emergency and critical care. The team values clinical excellence and animal welfare above all else.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care across a varied first opinion caseload, including medical and surgical cases
• Support surgical procedures, including anaesthesia monitoring and theatre nursing
• Provide excellent inpatient care and support patient recovery
• Work collaboratively with veterinary surgeons and wider practice staff to maintain clinical standards
• Contribute to ongoing development of patient care within the practice
• Build positive relationships with clients and colleagues

Requirements

• Registration as a Veterinary Nurse with the RCVS
• Experience working in clinical practice with growing confidence in medical and surgical nursing
• Strong communication skills and ability to build positive relationships
• Good organisational skills and effective workload management
• Proactive approach to learning, reflection, and continuous improvement
• Team-oriented mindset with a commitment to high standards of care

The Border and Brownlow group operates as an 8-vet companion animal and livestock practice with surgeries in Oswestry, Ellesmere, and Chirk. The team comprises 8 veterinary nurses and nursing assistants, 5 receptionists, and 2 practice managers, creating a strong support network.
